Artist History Welcome to the sounds of indie rock noise and jazz sensibility known as The Erics. In just a couple of years, this 4-piece ensemble has accrued a loyal following with its experimental and hard-grooving sound. All of the members' previous projects were driven by pop hooks with anunderground feel, which helped shape The Erics' unique sound. Eric Peters (drums) played in various New York City-based original bands, including Pull My Daisy (Almo/Geffen Records) and Ornamental. His jazz training and rock experience meshed beautifully with the sentiments of his writing partner, Erika Simonian (vocals and guitar). As the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in Hoboken based band, Jabber, she was a standout performer in 1998's Lilith Fair. Todd Satterfield (guitar and vocals) has played in a number of modern rock bands, including Tao and When it Rains; his robust and innovative guitar style has made him a notable presence in various scenes from New Jersey to Atlanta to New York. And the newest addition to the band, Bala Otto (bass guitar) studied South Indian music and dance in Madras, and has played with several original projects covering styles ranging from dixielandto heavy metal. Yearning to experiment with the sounds the two had been hearing in their heads, Eric and Erika joined forces as the Erics.Together, they combined their past indie experiences with the more avant-garde sounds toward which they were drawn. The result is music that is boundless in scope. The melodies can be beautiful or dissonant, the harmonies range from simple tocomplex. All this is always supported by a wide variety of driving grooves. With Eric on drums, keyboard, and guitar and with Erika on vocals and guitar, they listened back to their recordings and soon realized their need for more instrumentalists. Enter Todd and Bala, who fit in so well, there's talk of changing their names.
