Artist description
With roots in rock, jazz, and experimental music, the Assemblers push the envelope of the tune in quest of fresh pop gems, a high-energy pulse, and the odd sonic surprise, somewhat in the spirits of Steely Dan, XTC, and David Byrne. Live shows are salted with improvisations that appeal to fans of Medeski, Martin & Wood. A selection of happy live-improv passages is included in MAKE (1999) along with a dozen songs. The tracks on the new release, THE OTHER RIGHT PLACE (2002), range from the fresky pop of "Media Mind" and rock aggression of "Apsu's Complaint" to the smoldering mix of "You Burn Me" and the stark beauty of "Shortwave." Thanks to a distinguished team of hot guest players, including Davey Williams of Curlew, brilliant guitar contributions abound. |
