Artist description
Cheri Knight has been a friend of Ray for over 15
years. The Ass Ponys played with Ray years and
years ago one night in Northampton, MA (Ray’s
home) and their Asses were hooked immediately.
Eric Ambel, producer extrordinairre and ex-Del
Lord, knows a good song when he hears one. He’s
heard more than 100 by Ray and he likes them all.
Ex-Scruffy the Cat member Charlie Chesterman heard
about this very tribute to his friend Ray and
rushed into the studio, cutting a song in one day,
meeting the manufacturing and artwork deadline
literally by minutes. 4 out of the 5 Scud Mountain
Boys appear on the disc, in one form or another.
Tar Hut recording artists King Radio appear here,
too. Even Angry Johnny, secluded in his warehouse
lair, came out to record a tune.

His vocals are infectious and immediately recognizable, having more in common with Rick Danko of the Band or Neil Young. |

Artist History
His grandmother presented him his first Silvertone
for 8th grade graduation. That was 1964. By '65
he'd started his first band, but he'd still never
seen a live show. In '66, too young to get in, he
huddled in the pitch-black alley behind a bar
called the Beachcomber trying to hear snatches of
Barry & the Remains.

Albums
Castanets 1999, Old Souls Day 1998. He's also one of the two songwriters in the Lonesome Brothers, whose 1997 debut was on Tar Hut Records. |

Press Reviews
But it's the songs that set Mason apart. He's a
terrific songwriter, what you might call a
craftsman. Charlie Chesterman (formerly of Scruffy
the Cat) sees a quality in Mason's songs that is
simply absent in others'. |

Additional Info
He’s a legend. He’s a mentor to many. A friend to all. |
