Artist History
Stretching their legs and talents across the map, rockers Longwood prove they can rock smooth and then leap into the pit with aplomb.-JAM Magazine, August 1999And with this ability to write and perform songs with such depth, Longwood brings to the rock scene not only freshness, but also a unique sound that captivates all rock fans alike.Almost a year after the release of their 3 song demo, Longwood returned to the studio with award winning Producer/Engineer Ronny Cates and a desire to record a full-length album with blistering guitars hooks and lush melodies and harmonies. In 2001, Longwood released …An American Classic, a record that fuses rock, pop and upbeat acoustic rock, all the while staying true to Longwood’s heavier, melodic side. Formed in high school in Apopka, FL Longwood quickly garnered a healthy following and decided to jump to the next level. After relocating to Gainesville, FL Longwood was once again thrust into the spotlight. Over the next two years Longwood played all the major clubs in Gainesville sharing the bill with such class acts as Days of the New, Big Sky, Marvelous 3, Liquid Vinyl, Block, Spider Monkey and many more.Lead singer Matt Collins’ voice has been compared to the likes of Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, Edwin McCain and Scott Stapp of Creed. Jon’s drumming has been described as “pounding and mysterious” lending to a “dangerous, unpredictable” sound (JAM Magazine, Aug. ’99). The band has shared the front of the downloads page of ARTISTdirect.com with such artists as Counting Crows and Scout, as well as being picked as one of 10 bands to watch out for by Farmclub.com.With …An American Classic Longwood is more confident than ever that the future looks bright. Both of Longwood’s previous records have sold out, and with solid touring behind their most recent record, Longwood is looking to win over a new legion of fans all the while writing songs that have "keening moments of energy that connect with the edge."
