Press Reviews
Sonic transport from Beale Street to Main Street:These local rockers do not freeze at absolute zero; they are Absolute Zero. With a repertoire originating in the blues, this band covers the globe while keeping a firm grasp on the roots of Americana. Guitarist Brent Bowers pulls guitar tones from the Gaelic foundries of pop tarts such as U2. All the while keeping a bead on the American music that inspired so much British invasion of the last three decades. As a singer and guitarist Brent’s task is made simpler by the counterpoint of bassist Todd Britt and the diesel tractor rhythms of drummer Bush. As a three piece AZ fork out a lot of sound. I tend to believe it works out best as a trio so that the band’s overactive mind's eye can freely seek its’ blissful resolution. While they can rip open covers of tunes like “Crossroads” and “Sunshine of your Love” (Cream-y brass-knuckled versions), Absolute Zero work diligently to get in their originals. What you’ll find is more than a line of 7th chords on their way to a square dance. This band is instrumentally tight and deliberate in their message. You can sample six delicious AZ originals on the mp3.com web site http://www.mp3.com/artists/17/absolutezero.html. The songs float the emotional scope of bitter identification of “Father of Lies” to the somber mnemonica of “Until.” What fills this space is the animated musings of the technicolor artist in a world that is often a vapid canvass. Absolute Zero refuses to pull punches. Tackling the same subject matter of later day blues artists, these guys feel free to translate the stories as they see them. This is refreshing in this era of rampant test marketing, pollsters, and focus groups. So check this band out if you are in touch with the dark side of the reality.
