    Artist description
Hello and thanks for stopping by. We are the Pollinators. We are a rock and roll band. We play around the San Francisco Bay Area. We still have our day jobs. The Pollinators—Philip Swett on guitar, Matt Potter on bass, Dave Stockett on guitar, Greg Barnes on drums—have been making original rock music together for several years now. Our sound comes from a bunch of different sources: from the L.A. punk scene of the early 80’s to the anthem guitar rock of the seventies; from the stripped-down rhythms of funk and soul to the old-time twang of country & western. While a lot of bands struggle along with dreams of fame and success, we’re content to just play the kind of music we like listening to while keeping full control over our creativity. So we’re keeping the day jobs. That is unless someone drops a million dollar record deal in our laps. Then don’t think for a minute we wouldn’t give it all up for the chance to go party with Mick and the Stones.

    Artist History
The story of the Pollinators—if you’re really that interested—begins in 1990 when the four of us first played together back in college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In those days we called ourselves the SLO Barbers (origin unknown) and like most college bands, our primary goal was to get the drunks on their feet with our mix of both originals and covers by artists such as Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, the Talking Heads, the Specials and Haircut One Hundred. In the spring of 1991, after almost two years of playing backyard parties, pizza parlors, bars and festivals along California's central coast, we recorded a collection of our songs on a tape we fondly titled Who's Gittin Dave? And then we promptly broke up. Now skip ahead a little to 1994. After floating around for three years, all four of us eventually found ourselves settling in the San Francisco Bay Area. The reunion was unavoidable. And so in the spirit of re-birth, we changed our name to the Pollinators (Philip's then roommate Eric responsible for that) and began to play various clubs, universities and race tracks around the Bay Area. The three-year break had produced a backlog of song ideas and within a year we had enough new material to record our first self-produced CD, Stokin’ the Hive, which was released in November 1995. For the next three years band activity slowed down a bit as our real lives grew more complicated (i.e. weddings, job changes, mortgages). Still, we continued to play clubs and gradually build up a repository of new songs for our next CD. In November 1997 we began recording Sweet Sugar POP , a project that took us almost a year to complete but has turned out to be (in our opinion) our finest recording yet.
