Artist History
The BrainDead's 1993 resurrection began with the welcomed death of their previous rock group, FleshPot. JG hooked up with Clark Chaos, Rusty Gonads, Mike Moon, and JD Jigalo and the magic was first felt in mid-February 1994 at Seattle's Gibson's Bar & Grill. Two months later, they recorded their first single, "LAIME" at Mars Studio in Redmond, WA. It was released on Cravedog Records (Portland) compilation CD "Encyclopdia of Modern Post Punk Hits" in June 1994. Their music stood out from other Northwest bands and had a special sound and strength. Their belief in creating something special helped them endure the coming years of hard knocks. By the end of the year, things were starting to really move. The band released a 4 song demo cassette entitled "DEAD", experimenting with their sound and continued working with their co-producer, James Ramos of Abel-X studios. They performed in the Puget Sound area 2-3 times a week at any club that would take them. By the end of 1995, they offically performed over 170 live shows with 146 live shows in 1995 alone. During this time they entered Vagrant Studios and by July 1995, they released their first CD, a four song EP, entitled "GOD'S GREATEST GIFT TO MANKIND". The title is from a 1968 interview with Timothy Leary and the album is dedicated to those struggling against ignorance to legalize marijuana. This was the beginning of their exposure to the world and their fight against ignorance. 1996 was a year of some great moments and some serious tests. They recorded another demo cassette "DEVOUR EM" at the Seattle Art Institute and continued to gigging around the Puget Sound area, getting bigger and better shows. But in January 1997, there was a fire in their band unit toasting JD's and Clark's equipment. This was a very trying time during which most bands crumble but once again, they stuck together and weathered the storm. 1997 continued the same extreme trend. The band drew back and re-evaluated its stragedy for world domination. In November 1997, they started recording their first full length CD at Seattle's Abel-X Studios once again working with engineer and producer extraordinaire, James Ramos. During this time, a fledgling Seattle Label, DDP Records, signed the band and helped with the album's production. By December 1998 they officially completed recording and mastering 10 of their best songs over the last 4 years. Captured within those tracks is the true energy, passion, uniqueness and power of their music. The label had many struggles and internal problems and ended up self-destructing but they still helped the band immensely. Again the band was on its own. But band once again took control of its destiny. They raised the production money and released "RED" in June 1999. The band continued to progress, reaching goals they established many years ago. In August 1999, the band joined up with 11 other extreme music Seattle underground bands to form the Head Trauma Coalition and finally played a hugely successful show at the OK Hotel. By October 1999, they had played in Vancouver, B.C., Missoula, MT, Sacramento, CA, Reno, NV, Las Vegas, NVMesa, AZ and Albaqucque, NM completing their first tour and getting awesome, "sic" feedback. At this rate, the band is fast approaching its offical 300 performance mark. A feat that shows this underground band loves what it does and believes in the music. Finally, after great highs and testing lows, The Brain Dead, an original Northwest band that started in Issaquah in 1984, is scratching and biting its mark into the flesh of the audio world. |

Press Reviews
"When you are disappointed with the Local scene and sick of listening and listening to stupid tunes made in Televisa*, it's refreshing to hear a band with creativity, imagination, and intelligence. The Brain Dead make you feel that Hardcore is truly Great." - Roberto of PxPxRx 'Zine (Mexico) "Good in your face Hardcore. If they do vinyl, it would be worth checking out." - Suburban Voice 'Zine (MA) "Good, Original, and Professional Hardcore; the songs and lyrics are well thought out. Worth your time to check them out." - Noise Metal 'Zine (Belgium) "Metalcore with considerable force and energy. Lyrics cover individuality and social problems." - Maximum Rock 'N Roll 'Zine (CA) "It's a fine line between Hardcore and Thrash. The Brain Dead are on that edge. Damn Cool tunes to listen to!" - Subnormal 'Zine (IL) "Musically and Lyrically very influenced by the early 80's English Punk scene" - Flipside 'Zine (NY) "The Brain Dead are Punk and Hard Hitting. I enjoyed their tape alot. They use sound bits from what has to be Cheech & Chong between their songs. If you have lots of anger and sarcasm and enjoy hard-hitting music, then The Brain Dead are worth checking out." - Sick Things 'Zine (AZ) "Hardcore with Industrial and Alternative influences. It's a volatile mixture resulting in some music with excellent usage of sampling. A definite must have!" - Rage Magazine (NY) "If these guys get into the Studio, they could be very impressive. If you like Hardcore with Metal influences, these guys are for you." - Power Metal 'Zine (WA) "7 1/2 Corpses This is some really cool shit, Damn, Damn Cool. Finally I get something in my mailbox that is different than Deathmetal and it's fucking cool. Wow, I'm really shocked at this." - Under The Corpse 'Zine (NY) "The Brain Dead is a powerful band. The music comes at you like an out of control freight train, it's doesn't let you down. In my opinion, they're alot like Nirvana. The music is straight forward, to the point, and it's not all clean and polished." - 1/2 Creeper Magazine (PA) "These guys are really good. They say they sound like Broken Bones meets Entombed and I'll have to agree somewhat..." - Agents of Misfortune (OR) "The music is heavy Pantera-like grooves mixed with Punk, Hardcore riffs like Corrosion of Conformity and others. They are definitely different. Check 'em out!" - Wretched Corpse 'Zine (PA) "I don't normally get into punk stuff but this is different from the norm and that there is some metal influence in the songs and some use of keyboards. JG's vocals remind me of Rob Zombie in parts. Musically, the energy is there but I have a feeling they are much more intense live." - Subversive Agenda (CA) |
