    Artist description
Formerly known as Libbets and then Projekt Mayhem, Friend of a Friend (F of a F) is a four piece pop/alternative/(something else) band with James Laczkowski on guitar and vocals, Dan Frailich on lead guitar, Josh Childs on bass, and Nate Bohanan on drums. F of a F draws its creative drive from James's views on love and life, as well as the other member's life experiences. Seeking to venture out further with a sound that versatile and creative, F of a F also branched out into doing instrumentals that are ambient yet energetic. F of a F likes to experiment, with songs that are as simple as one acoustic guitar and mic, to upwards of 40 tracks of keyboards, distorted drums, effects, and other miscellaneous concoctions. F of a F began with just one guy and his guitar, but a mutual love of music has brought together this new live line- up to many Chicagoland venues including the Muse Café in Lansing as well as the Unicorn Café in Evanston. Although F of a F may have deeply introspective and serious lyrics at times there live shows are recognized as being fun and unexpected. Instead of four guys just behind instruments you get a live show complete with a drummer that likes to make his presence known and guitarists that can't seem to stay still. The band is also known to break into covers with the likes of Radiohead's "High And Dry" and The Pixies "Where Is My Mind". For their more recent material, they've described it as getting "forward to basics."

    Artist History
F of a F was conceived back in 1991 when Jim Laczkowski became guitarist for such projects as Cheesy Couch Treasures, Einstein's Creation, and Bad Shakespeare, before coming into his own with the breakthrough Indiana band Midian containing most of the current line-up. After Midian went its separate ways, the remaining members formed the equally good Noon Blue Apples. James however pursued a solo career, recording hundreds of 4-track demos that later became the Libbets Project. James' CD, "Turn Off The TV, and Listen To This," later went on to sell 200 copies of the CD through Mp3.com. In 2000 the current members of F of a F decided it was time to put their passion to work. Originally F of a F was the brain child of James, with the members simply there to perform his work live. Love of live performance then forced the group to come together and begin to work collectively. Most recently, they've played shows in Evanston, Lansing, and even Tower Records in Bloomingdale, IL. Currently, Friend Of A Friend are taking the rest of 2002 off to regroup, start recording with a whole new sound, and hopefully return, revitalized and ready to rock harder than ever before. We appreciate the support, the emails, and look forward to our new projects. Just you wait!

    Press Reviews
Featured in the Illinois Entertainer publication. Debut CD titled "Turn Off The TV, And Listen To This" was hailed as something special. "The title couldn't be more appropriate. Turn Off The TV and Listen To This is exactly what you should do, if this CD happens to find its way into your hands." --- Dean Ramos (September 2000) Featured in NW Indiana newspaper The Hammond Times "Friend Of A Friend is a bit of a sonic flux... but have recently forged the new harder-edged sound akin to the Foo Fighters with a touch of Radiohead." --- Tom Lounges, 6/2/
