Artist History
After two summers of tromping around Europe with her guitar and high heel boots Joy Eden Harrison settled back into San Diego, CA. with a record deal and a head full of new songs. Those songs collectively became her debut CD ANGEL TOWN, released on Los Angeles based Bizarre/Planet records (Frank Zappa, Tom Waits) in 1995. Joy Eden Harrison, a native of New York's Lower East Side and daughter of enviornmental artist team Newton and Helen Harrison, was brought up in an atmophere of artistic innovation. Undaunted by her parents success she felt compelled to find and nuture her own vision. As a singer Harrison's smoky tones hearken back to the halcyon days of the New York 1930s (Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughn). And her gift for songwriting packs a 1-2 punch in both the lyrical and melodic department. Her sophomore effort UNSPOKEN, a critically acclaimed foray into the world of avant pop/jazz, was released in 1999 on her own label Astarte Records. A year later her label released an album by Chicago jazz pianist John Erickson. That ramplin' spirit that took Harrison through Europe in search of her musical vision, has brought her full circle with frequent tours across the US sharing the stage with artists like Jewel, Steve Poltz, Stephen Bishop, Cindy Lee Berryhill(who produced UNSPOKEN), Gregory Page, plus a series of high profile radio interviews and festival performances at conferences like the recent Rockrgrl in Seattle |
