Artist History
USURPER was formed in 1992 by Diabolical Slaughter (Vokills) and Rick "Rigor" Scythe (guitars). They longed to create music that captured the feel of true crushing heavy metal in the tradition of the Black/Death/Thrash Metal Gods of the 80's. In 1993, Apocalyptic Warlord (drums) joined the duo, and USURPER was ready to slay the Metal underground. The band recorded their first studio demo, "Visions from the Gods", in the wretched summer heat of 1994. Over 1300 tapes were sent out, and 3 different pressings were made. This demo showcased the band's darkleather and spikes metal in a time when most bands in the underground were copying the Scandinavian BlackMetal trend, or rehashing the worn out Florida style of Death Metal. Usurper stood out from the flock of pretenders, playing Metal in a way that was once forgotten. Since the original release of "Visions..." the band has released three incredible assaults, their cult debut on Head Not Found Records, "Diabolisis", their breakthrough Necropolis debut MCD, "Threshold of the Usurper", and their last neck-destroying effort, "Usurper II: Skeletal Season". The band has toured Europe with Enthroned and Hecate Enthroned, crushed the states with Cradle of Filth, Dark Funeral, and others and carved a path of Metal Devastation that will leave the Metal scene forever scarred. In 2000, USURPER re-released their mighty "Visions from the Gods" Demo along with some bonus tracks. This release featured every Usurper line-up, from the three piece squad of Diabolical Slaughter (vokillz), Rick "Rigor" Scythe (Guitars), and Apocalyptic Warlord (Drums), through the addition of Bassist Necromancer, to the Skeletal Season line-up, which featured ex-Funeral Nation skin-pounder Hellstorm behind the kit. USURPER continued to receive mass attention from the TRUE metal underground as they always had, and entered NOMAD STUDIOS in Texas (KING DIAMOND/ABSU) to record their latest assault of metal, "Necronemesis". In true USURPER form, the band have created one of their mostimpressive recordings to date. "Necronemesis" was produced by metal veteran producer Kol Marshall and features backing vocals on the title track courtesy of KING DIAMOND himself! The time has come to let the legions of Usurper's formidable Necro-cult feast on this classic piece of underground history! "Necronemesis" is USURPER's finest album, and with the addition of new guitarist Carcass Chris on the live front, this unstoppable force will once again terrorize your soul with the brimstone fist! USURPER is True Metal... and True METAL will never die! |
