Artist description
Clevenger was influenced by a variety of artists from Dolly Parton, Emy Lou Harris and Bonnie Raitt to Janis Joplin, and Linda Ronstadt. Fortunately she never lost sight of who she was and the influences of other artists never overshadowed the unique style which is Nettie Clevenger; a sometimes surprising measure of musical city-sophistication interwoven with her Ozark mountain heritage. |

Artist History
Born in the city and raised in the country describes both Nettie Clevenger's life- and her musical style. Clevenger's earliest memories are of sitting on her father's lap and singing for guests. She confesses, "I wanted to be a country singing star for as long as I can remember." But the path that Clevenger took from early dreams to emerging artist was a circuitous one, filled with the kinds of heartaches and disappointments that make those who survive stronger for the journey. It was that rugged life-journey that helped shape Clevenger's musical identity. As she says, "I lived every one of those 'heartbreak songs.'" |

Group Members
Nettie's "Grayest Things Blue," is a refreshing change from the all-too-easy-to-pigeonhole first albums which so often debut to commments of, "oh, another Amy Grant wannabe," or "she's certainly got Trisha Yearwood's style down pat." |
