Artist History
Born in the bush in Northern B.C., Canada, The Dick Twang Band jammed at many hotels in Dawson Creek, B.C. This was the nearest town to them, and where they went to get drunk in the many hotels. The Dawson Hotel allowed them a venue to bring their music and comedy to the public as well as giving the band a place to live when it's cold up there. Like -40 below. After requests from their many fans for a CD, The Dick Twang Band recorded 100% Dick Twang, and it became an underground party favorite across Canada. Hoopla?... As you may or may not know, the Dick Twang Band is a highly original, very funny, satirical, and even cynical Band of Musicians who set out to record some fun original songs that they had written onto a tape for themselves to enjoy. Well the word got out, slowly at first, and many people dropped by during the recording sessions, some talented and some not, to give their encouragement and input to these boys, on this, their very firstrecording. The tape was always rolling, and many extra musicians and fans were recorded for the first time on the tape. The first tape was recorded amidst much hoopla and beer on a very cold winter in Pouce Coupe, B.C. Canada, on a Fostex 4-Track Multitracker at the now-defunct Blue Haze Studios. Well everyone that had showed up during that winter asked for a copy of it, and soon Dick was making more copies of it from his master tapes than he really cared to. So he hired a manufacturing company to make his tapes, and a printer to print his labels and graphics, and soon realized that he was in the record business, and he couldn't afford to give his tapes away anymore. Not to mention his circle of friends was rapidly growing larger, as he began to develop a following and become a cultural icon. Dick doesn't feel bad about selling his CD’s & tapes, because he knows that all the big record companies don't feel bad about selling theirs. |
