Artist History
Don't let his youth fool you --David Aaron is a
sophisticated songwriter and musician with skills
well beyond his 21 years. This Week in New York
describes his blend of Grunge and Power Pop
styles as 'wholly original, not derivative mixing
elements of Nirvana, U2, and Smashing Pumpkins.'
Demouniverse.com hails Aaron's 'appealing
melodies, thoughtful lyricism, and solid guitar
work.'
As a childhood alto saxophone soloist in his
native Brooklyn, NY, Aaron explored the power
of big band and bebop music in school ensembles.
After an epiphany at the now-legendary marathon
Pearl Jam concert on Randalls Island in 1996,
Aaron switched his focus to the guitar and has
been rocking ever since. After playing with
various pickup groups through high school,
he entered Five Towns College of Music, where
he currently studies jazz and recording
technology, Aaron has found time in the last 2
years to cut 3 albums in his homemade studio all
of which are available on mp3.com: Out of Focus,
Outcast City, and Blue. These are textured
recodings with layers of guitars as well as his
overlaid bass and drum tracks. Highlights
include:
- The anthemic rocker 'My Stand' with the memorable
hook 'They judge me and I judge em back'
- 'Your Skin' Aaron's one-man homage to garage
bands. The chorus, once heard, will not leave your
brain.
- 'Sign from Heaven' a stirring tribute to a lost
loved one and the ultimate healing that comes
from a mature assimilation of the experience.
This gem of a song will strike a chord with many
in the current emotional climate.
- 'Someday' a driving, radio-ready pop song with
the killer chorus 'Someday to you means never to
me'
- 'Freedom' a raw blast of distorted guitar and
an insidious chorus worthy of Lenny Kravitz
While David Aaron continues to write and record
home demos, he is looking to bring his music to
a wider audience. Concert dates, radio promotion,
and a stronger on-line presence are all currently
being planned. Like fellow Brooklyn natives Living
Colour, Type O Negative, and Carole King, Aaron
has found his own sound, a sound that will
resonate and inspire those of his generation as
well as anyone who appreciates good songwriting
and strong musicianship. |

Press Reviews
Aaron's throaty drawl is very close in character to Layne Staley of Alice In Chains and his music is similarly downbeat. However, David's primary instrument is acoustic guitar and percussion is largely absent, lending Blue a more sweetly brooding air than the roaring angst AIC was known for. I don't wish to give the impression that this is a derivative work; these songs stand up on their own, helped along by appealing melodies, thoughtful lyricism and solid guitar work. Like its namesake by Joni Mitchell, David Aaron's Blue is a fine pick for rainy days spent in bed. - Demo Universe
