Artist History
Currently, Anthony Arvizu is working as an independent engineer/producer/drummer in the Long Beach area.Recently having purchased a Pro-Tools system to compliment his many years of Analog Recording skills.A current project is a Pro Tools Session "Drum Loops" CD package, collaborating with long time friend and percussion monster Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits, John Hammond, Mike Watt). This project is sure to spawn many more like it as Arvizu digs into the world of Computer Editing and Digital Manipulation. The Pro Tools system also affords the luxury of "Going Mobile" as it is part of the new "A Sound Man; Mobile Production" van.
Anthony Arvizu began making music at a very young age( that would be the mid to late 70's). Played in many popular bands in the Long Beach CA area until becoming a founding member of the group National People's Gang, a band who would be at the forefront of the Orange County "alternative" scene of the mid 80's.Playing such venues as Safari Sam's, Bogart's (Long Beach), Radio City, The Concert Factory, Big John's ( opening for firehose the night the place burnt down), as well as L.A. venues like Cathay DeGrand and Madome Wong's Chinatown. Remember? Sometime in '88 they were signed to Dr. Dream Records and after completing their first LP 'The Hard Swing' began extensive touring of the US and Canada. In '89 the LP 'Orange' was recorded and more touring ensued to include performances at the new SXSW music conference in Austin (created to help re-vitalize the not-so-new music seminar in NYC).Interestingly enough at this time (early '90's) not many people across the states knew where 'Orange' County was as NPG would laying groundwork for other OC bands to come.
Fast forward to 1992 with the break-up of NPG, Arvizu would begin working at the historic 'Toledo' Studio in LBC, soon to be re-named 'Mambo Sound and Recording' and become a part of some music making history, to include Sublime's "40 oz. to Freedom", Rocket From The Crypt's "Boychucker" (and other singles), 'Big Drill Car's "Batch", Supercollider's "Dual", as well as a record co-produced with longtime NPG bandmate Chad Jasmine "Feed" which Arvizu, Jasmine and NPG bassist Deyo Glines would subsequently tour to support in the spring of '92.
The next ccouple of years would be fruitful at the 'Toledo' location until the city pulled the plug on the residential-zoned recording studio and another LB landmark was knocked down (lava rock and all).
