    Artist History
AMY DOUGLASAmy Douglas, vocalist extraordinaire, pianist, composer and arranger was born in New York City during a brutal snowstorm on January 25, 1972. It seems that even then she knew how to “make an entrance.” Influenced by her family’s eclectic music collection, which contained everything from Motown, Rock and Jazz to Folk Music, Amy knew instantly that her destiny was in music. Amy became an accomplished singer and pianist by the time she was 7 years old. Before long, she would hone the 5 plus octave range and fantastic songwriting skills, which are her trademarks today. In short, she was born to make great music, and at 28, she has already amassed quite a reputation as one of the finest upcoming artists to watch.Throughout high school, Amy won numerous awards for her musical achievements, most notably for her involvement with Jazz. She was the first vocalist ever to win the NYSSMA Jazz Award and the recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, but in school activity wasn’t enough to satisfy her ambition. From the time she was 13 years old, Amy was already doing studio session work and playing gigs. After high school she enrolled in New York University’s Jazz Studies Program, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Performance, Composition and Theory. It was here that her Jazz sensibilities were crafted yet further, as she studied with such great masters as Jim Mc. Neely, Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano and Ralph LaLama. While at NYU, she formed a jazz trio, which played out at some of the best Jazz Venues in NYC, which even further developed her skills as an arranger and band leader. She also got her first taste of the real scene, as she performed at the Blue Note with the Illinois Jacquet Big Band. Graduating with honors, she then began to focus on her career. While it seemed that the natural progression for her would be a life in Jazz, her desire to write great pop songs and to “rock out,” overtook her, so she combined both of these efforts and formed Honeytrap, with wonder bassist Chris Vega, which was one of NYC’s premiere funk bands. During her time with the band, she would compose her most notably remembered songs, such as “Iced Coffee” and “Fire In My Soul.” At the same time, she was getting a reputation as one of the wildest “downtown scenesters,” as she joined the House Band at Squeezebox, a Glam/Drag Rock extravaganza, with punk rockers and Drag Queens. At Squeezebox, she sang, and accompanied such notables as Jayne County, Jackie Beat, Mistress Formika, Pat Briggs of Psychotica, and Jean Hill of John Water’s famous film Desperate Living. She developed a fan base that would come just to see what she’d do next, or wear next. The gig lead to more and more gigs at Fraggle Rock, the all girl rock extravaganza, and Wigstock ’99, where she sang with Drag Favorite, Sherry Vine. However, dressing up wild and playing cover songs was no longer enough to hold Amy’s musical interests and sadly, neither did Honeytrap. *** So with an amassed catalogue of material, she went “indoors” and began to compose what would become her current sound, a collage of high voltage “old school” rock and funk, which continues to please audiences to this day, but not wanting to let her “Drag Days” go amiss and she and new creative partner and photographer Wilson Prunier collaborated on “Nivea Florentine-Rock and Roll Suicide!” which would be her “grandest” project to date, a cabaret act which would tell the tale of the most washed up, boozed out floosy rock queen, who just couldn’t get out from under. It was performed on June 22nd, 2000 most fittingly at CBGB’s Gallery Lounge, and was a funny and telling success. For the future, Amy is now focusing on her recording career and hopes to have a CD out of all her original music very soon. For more information please contact Richard Pelzer at Mega Management 212-334-5800
