Artist description
Perhaps it's easier to start with what Violets for Nikki isn't. It isn't pop. Anything else is new territory. The beautiful thing about musicis that it's okay to try new ideas. Yeah there's a message in the guts of it somewhere but there will always be new stories and styles to get that across. VFN is about the arts and that means musically speaking we'll always be trying to change into something. If you don't like the complacency of always knowing what to expect from a show or album, we're your band. |

Artist History
Violets for Nikki was formed in September of 1997 by thirty three year old punk veteran Gregory Lanclos. VFN was one of thirty or so bands that revolved around the SkyeLight coffeehouse which was located "in the intestinal punk guts of Central Florida." While Lanclos orchestrated the groundwork for VFN, he, Kristiaan Castillo, and Steve Shanafelt performed acoustic engagements throughout the Orlando-Gainesville area as Copascetic. The band sought to expand, auditioning potential members from groups such as The Malefactors, Beautiful Mess, and The Commodes. Bands like these formed a tightly knit group that engaged in promotional activities for the musical community as a whole. With the closing of SkyeLight Coffeehouse, the band settled into its own routine away from its native music scene. Non-stop rehearsal has taken up the majority of the last year along with service engagements at correctional institutions and other worthy causes. With a full length album in the works, Violets for Nikki is taking its gothic blues sound to an ever-widening circle of unsuspecting future fans. |
