Artist History
Somach is also a recognized Beatles’ authority. He is the author of Ticket to Ride (1989) and Meet the Beatles…Again (1995). In 1979, after a successful career as a radio announcer and programmer at Philadelphia’s premier rock radio station WYSP-FM, Somach formed Denny Somach Productions. The company has since become one of the most successful independent producers of syndicated and network radio programming in the country. As an original consultant to MTV, Somach was in charge of organizing the channel’s News Department and produced their first outside program, The News that rocked ’81. The 1983 version was hosted by Phil Collins, and Julian Lennon made his television debut as host of The News That Rocked ’84. The News That Rocked series was eventually syndicated by Blair Television Enterprises. His own weekly series on the USA Network, Hot Spots, was responsible for launching the national careers of the Hooters, Georgia Satellites, KIX, The Johnny Van Zandt Band and others. Somach was selected by Ted Turner to serve as a director of his Cable Music Channel. Most recently, he served as a consultant to help launch HBO’s Comedy Channel. |
