Artist History
The story of Tomas Castro is as interesting and diverse as his music…Tomas Castro comes from a very musical family in Chile. Both his parents and grandparents were professional musicians. His grandfather was the renowned Chilean folksinger and composer Guillermo Soudy (Los Quatro Huasos) whose well known traditional Chilean folksongs and compositions are still sung and recorded today (over 30 years after his death). Fleeing from the political turmoil in Chile, Tomas and his family moved to Stockholm, Sweden in 1975. Five years later, Tomas once again moved, and relocated to Mozambique, in Southern Africa. This is where his musical journey began...In Mozambique, Tomas became an active part of the rich music environment that was Southern Africa in the early 1980’s. With musical and rhythmic influences from Brazil, Cuba, Europe and throughout Southern Africa, Tomas began to develop a true global perspective on music, rhythm and composition. After Mozambique, Tomas moved back to Stockholm where he studied music at “Södra Latin.” Upon graduating, Tomas moved to London, England where he joined the Robin Jones King Salsa band as the lead singer. It was here in England his musical crossroads started to converge. Tomas Castro finally began to define and develop his unique writing style and musical sound. Once again back in Stockholm in the late part of 1990, Tomas continued to write and began developing plans for a solo band project. Finally in 1992, the Tomas Castro Band was formed. For the next four years, Tomas and his six-member band traveled and performed across Sweden. Denmark and Norway. InTomas Castro is a true International Pop Recording Artist, with a voice that speaks to the growing worldwide music business. In a changing world where geographical boundaries and musical genres are rapidly blurring across the new “Global” marketplace, Tomas Castro’s ability to write and perform in English, Spanish and Portuguese makes his a truly ternational voice for our time. His multi-cultural influences have helped Tomas create an original music, lyric and rhythmic style which blend together in a completely fresh and unique music and live performance experience. |
