Press Reviews
(RIP IT UP Magazine)If Ted Clarke, boxer, actor, warriors entertainment director, could find the music to go with his brilliant lyricism he would be a superstar. How's this for a verse, the soapbox preachers filled with venom / his bony finger singles you out / he's heard the word of god / and says the sword of the lord / is pointed right at your heart”. That pearl of a verse comes from the opening and title track Wildlife. Written in partnership with the recently deceased Mike Farrell-one of this country’s guitar greats-it combines rock, blues and gospel in a folk / country way producing a very kiwi sounding end product. Maybe it’s too quick to judge but Clarke's mature sound may not make too many inroads into the mainstream hearts of this country. It’s a shame because there is some real beauty within that songwriting heart of his. Wildlife is an important album, one that echoes the very landscapes of this beautiful country he has travelled up and down for so long. Has Ted Clarke finally come home? |
