Artist History
Formed at the end of 1996, KIVI is recognizable from the opening riff and vocal of any song. This group cut its teeth on the legendary New York downtown club scene, playing venues such as Arlene Grocery, Webster Hall, Meow Mix, and CBGBs, as well as playing the 1998 Intel NY Music Festival and 1999 CMJ Festival.During this time, Lamb produced and recorded KIVI’s debut CD “Replacement Hip” capturing the intensity of the band’s live sound. While Lamb’s vocals and songwriting are the essence of KIVI, they are punctuated by aural fireworks from JP Bowersock, a self-described purveyor of American trash guitar. The debut CD’s punch and groove are delivered by second-generation bass and drum team Tim Hopkins and Jeff GattensWith the CD's release in February 1999 came chartingon the CMJ music charts, and a AAA-format radio tourto Pittsburgh PA, Killington VT, Lake Placid, NY, andNags Head, NC.Presently, KIVI is putting the finishing touches on their secondalbum, with a release planned for early 2001. |

Press Reviews
“Replacement Hip certainly does rock. Hard. Ranging from a Dick Dale-like speed and intensity to a Pixies-like depth of feeling and Modern sensibility, this album is an incredible journey on Fender guitars....a guitar force to be reckoned with...will blow many guitar players out of the water entirely...” Sybil McGuire, FMQB Rock Review; “Kivi is a four piece band with killer reverb surf groove ... with an awesome hybrid of styles...led by Cynthia Lamb’s powerful and at times haunting vocals, and fueled by JP Bowersock’s Fender Jazzmaster gymnastics,” Peter Herb, Cover Magazine; “The band’s simple retro sound, fronted by Debbie Harry-esque vocals,is clearly hip,” Cook Young NYRock.com, Streetbeat |
