NICK DRAKE was barely 26 years old when he diedin 1975. The British singer-songwriter made onlythree albums during his short life – Five LeavesLeft, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon. All are nowrecognized as classics (from: „Patrick Humphries,`Nick Drake – The Biography´). Nick Drake wasone of those artists that hardly ever gotcommercial attention in their lifetime butare considered as „cult“ today.Der Belgian guitarist GILBERT ISBIN whos so-farreleased nine albums have been highly acclaimedby the international music press now releaseda CD with his own versions of Nick Drake songson Traurige Tropen. `When I first heard themusic of Nick Drake I was touched, as aguitarplayer and composer, by his exeptionaltalent for writing simple yet haunting melodies,accompanied by rich colourful chordvoicings,full of clusters, and his technically impressivefingerstyle technique ... Nick was certainlya truly original artist and his music reallyhad a big influence on my attitude towardscomposing and playing. As it has neverthelessnever been my aim to copy Nick. I arraged someof his compositions in my own stylistic approach´(taken from the foreword of the CD-booklet). |
