Artist description
Hate, anger, love, lust, betrayel and fun. The brainchild of frontman Pat Kigongo, SCAM (or Society Can't Accept Me) was his outlet of music and emotion as a indescribeable band in a scene that was choking from bands who either wanted to be the Get Up Kids or Sum 41 or whatever is "punk" by Mtv standards. Armed with a black book of lyrics and a fierce dislike of the unoriginality that plauged much of the scene, Pat teamed up with Ed Norey and Kevin Rankin of Project Mayhem (http://www.mp3.com/pmayhem). After a few rehersals, it was like magic and SCAM was born. On April 20th 2000, they recorded 4 tracks which would introduce the world to an unlikely blend of old school pop punk and hardcore a la the Ramones with Pat's never ending griping about women and the world around him. The band proceeded to make limited live appearanecs and began developing a cult following around the song "Blue Eyeshadow Girl." But not to remain content with an unchanging sound, SCAM returned with 3 more hard edged songs towards the end of august of 2000. All of these would end up on the first scam EP which gathered much attention on the underground of the underground scene.
After an ill fated stint in a college quartet, the summer of 2001 would become known as the summer of SCAM. 3 months of debauchery, live performances and the usual mess that SCAM brings whereever they go. At the end of the summer, the band recorded "the Layman's Tools," a cd which culminated material Pat had written during his first year at college, during which he was heavily influenced by music outside of the limited space of "punk rock". Much more daring than the first release, The Layman's tools is a much more emotional and provocative album. Lacking a uniform musical style, the lyrics are what unify an album that ranges from indie rock, to punk, to pop, to folk. Though some in Rockland are content to be spoonfed mass market mush and noise that occasionaly plauges the area, there are plenty who are ready for music that is more of an art form. Nonetheless, the members of SCAM hope to continue creating a revolution in sound and pushing boundaries in the name of fun. |
