    Artist History
The album "Home Schooled," proclaimed "forget being old school , baby I'm home schooled." Well, Scotty Boombox is taking this education and moving on into “Street Dentistry,” an effort that promises to “work on your head from the corner.” What makes “Street Dentistry” so jaw wiring is that “Home Schooled” was purposeful training for it. The variety of live venues and musical styles exposed to Boombox through his life were exemplified all through out the first album. Seven years of sharpening his percussion, trumpet, and lead vocals skills with the band "Overflow,” then expanding into other mediums by utilizing knowledge from a short-lived funk & jungle group “Cleo Thorpe & the Creme de Mar.” Boombox also took bouncy break beats out of stints with the hip-hop “B.A.S.S. Nation” and gathered horn rifts from a pop-ska band “The Amazing Adventures of Tim.” All this preparation developed into the musically educational and instrumental “Home Schooled,” where his music and presentation were synched together to an almost criminal level. His sound is spontaneous beauty tempered by calculated intelligence. Each sample, transition, or noise relates to the other with a quirky mathematical precision that is highlighted by the simplistic elegance of break beats, orchestral strings, bassoons, and toy guns. But, despite how complex that is, descriptively and audibly, the Scotty Boombox original artwork housing the album is somehow parallel. The record and its art are thoroughly brushed, from musical content to technical difficulty to artistic merit, a ‘rookie effort’ scoring an ‘11’ from the Canadians. Although, to label “Home Schooled” as ‘rookie’ is a bit deceptive. Why? Because Scotty Boombox is no newbie to the music scene and the album is presents itself as no kickoff. Scotty Boombox has been a break-beat practitioner in a solo context for three years, and the sophomore effort "Street Dentistry" promises new partners and new tools for new operations. Medical assistants from trailer parks and radar bunkers have all been hired on and put into the back alley “Street Dentistry” office, which is opening for business this spring. Look for it to change the way you use your head. Summary: Scotty Boombox creates music that people from all walks of life can relate to.

    Press Reviews
"Visionary electronic music artist, Scotty Boombox a.k.a. Scott Shelton, just released his debut album, 'Home Schooled'. . . Scotty Boombox has created an electronic schizophrenia featuring interlocking grooves and calculated intelligence. All the tracks have a distinct mathematical precision highlighted by catchy hooks that feature orchestral strings, bassoons, and even Pac Man interpretations. Each track melts in to the next with inspirational fluidity and Scotty's signature humor. While there are no actual lyrics, he intersplices his grooves with utterances from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Under Grace), old time movies, explosions, and answering machine messages (J.Rhodes lays down stupidity on 'Hair Piece' and 'Big Shirley' - he is also on a few other tracks along with superstars Chris Boggs ('Introduction'), Kip Lourens ('If I were paranoid'), and a slew of other eclectic guests). The perceptive listener will benefit profoundly from the intellectual overtones this work presents. Take the time to enjoy this fantastic album." - music critic Jason Rhodes A "Quirky slightly avant-garde rock?!? definitely electronic and alternative, a strangely compelling sound that reminds me of Deus or perhaps the Beta Band; very pleasant to hear something original at MP3.com" -the Nest Internet Radio, 08.20.01. . . "Scotty seems to have the digital music scene locked down. Hailing from Ohio, this kat brings a lovely track ["Under Grace"] laced with an excellent passage from Dr. M.L.King, Jr. -Check it out, and then check Scotty's site and show love." -SouL of the "Rhythm Hurmits", 07.12.01. . . "[Symphony Raygun]is like the music that would be played in the air-locks of space ships when the space dudes are decontaminating their suits after a hard day of alien planet exploring." -evolume internet radio, 06.09.2001. . . "...INS returned to the venue and was rewarded with an incredible set by Columbus-based "Scotty Boombox". Mixing the slow beats with the breakbeats, MLK jr. and circus calliopes, Scotty stunned the crowd and set the stage for a diverse and eccletic electronic night." -the INS, Cleveland OH 12.17.01. . . "In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. . .(the song "Under Grace" is) a soulful techno creation filled with respect and reverence (not to mention danceable.) Very well done! "- Artemis' Boots Internet Radio, 1.18.02
