Limitless Diversity. I try to make myself laugh. roAE:This is a one-man musical disaster. Everything encompassed and blurred together in various incarnations to form a frappe of sonic wonder. Each song is different and progressive, that is to say all of the music you'll find here is new and innovative. |

Press Reviews
From www.GODSOFMUSIC.com - For the song JUNE: Dear God, I was born into the wrong country. As if watching 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' multiple times didn't confirm it, listening to this beautiful piece by roAE only confirms the fact that I should really, really have been Chinese. Either that or a Chihuahua or something. But personal weirdness aside, this goes straight into my top playlist with a bullet. The tune is as dynamic as it is diverse in the images it creates, haunting guitar with toe-tapping bass, haunting ambience compiled with hummable tune. Best tune I've heard in ages. And you can quote me on that*. The introduction to this fantastic piece is through wistful guitar sounds, rendered in stereo glory (I recommend wearing headphones to listen). It definitely has an oriental feel to the piece. And then there's the ambience behind it which brings you straight into this wonderful haunting, hummable chorus with the bass providing the melody and it is absolutely catchy; totally unique in the way it presents itself. The entire piece is in this format, and it is a wonderful, wonderful effect. But I am going to raise the complaint about its length. It doesn't nearly have the length it could have. It's like listening to a piece by Steve Reich and only hearing two minutes of it. Sounds like these are supposed to be musical *experiences* not pieces, and I would have felt totally comfortable listening to fifteen minutes of the music, rather than the scant three or so minutes that encompass it. There is a great deal of musicianship in this song, and I very highly recommend it to anyone, anyone who appreciates good music. roAE deserves *much* more promotion. *Feel Privileged Charisma: 8.50 Technical Skill: 8.50 Structure: 8.00 Interest: 9.00 Lyrics: n/a Performance: 9.00 Arrangement: 8.50 Recording Quality: 9.00 Long Term Appeal: 8.50 OVERALL: 8.60 For the Song LEFT -This band are musicians. I enjoyed the riffs and the beat. The vocals should go...not a knock on the vocalist, words just don't fit on this piece. The music does the talking. The guitar is eloquently poised and just speaks for the song. The other instruments back the lead guitar solidly. At 2:32 in the song the beat adjusts just enough to draw you in...I didn't see it coming, it was a pleasant surprise. All in all, this is a song that would have a place in my playlist...minus the vocals...they're distracting. When these guys are just playing, they capture you. I'd give them a 9 on recording quality but the vocals were poorly mixed...just my opinion. It's an instrumental played with traditional rock instruments. It has an almost Bosa Nova beat. The main consistent is the Bass, which walks generally through a main melody occasionally meandering into offshoots of itself. There are 2 main guitar lines, one of which almost sounds like a harpsichord at times, while the other is more distorted and seems to play against the bass line melody, yet sometimes goes off and does it's own thing. Saying all this, I actually like this song. Don't really know why, it's uniqueness scores some points for me, as does the fact that it's very short and I don't have a chance to get tired off it. The arrangement is fairly good. It goes to a bridge before the end segment that really catches my attention - partly because it's the best part of the song and is an excellent transition. The quality of the recording is quite good and the musicianship is at the least the equal of the song. While I hear traces of their influences and similar artists in the song, it's still an extremely unique effort. I've sat here and played this song through 3 times and now want to go and listen to other songs by this artist because there is clearly some fascinating minds behind this. I may not have scored this effort very high, but I suspect that there are more interesting nuggets of music coming from these folks. That is a pretty high compliment to give to an unknown independent artist. This latest offering from roAE is shortly over a minute or so long. So there's not really a huge amount of music for me to write a review on. However... 'Inches Away...' is a pint-sized musical guitar experience that leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth. The song starts off innocently with a slow, haunting latin guitar vibe. Just as the listener is beginning to feel drawn into a state of passive rest, the whole song flips out and is turned into this fast-paced almost flamenco style tune that really has some excellent musicianship showing through. Really, quite inspiring to listen to. And that's it, the song's over. I'm torn whether to criticise the length. On the one hand, the listener is left feeling unfulfilled with such a tiny tune. But on the other, roAE is making no secret about this being such a small song. So I'm going to leave that issue out there - you decide. But I *definitely* totally think you should download it - it'd only take a few minutes! - Anton Wulfen http://www.mp3.com/_alw_ Charisma: 8.50 Technical Skill: 6.50 Structure: 8.00 Interest: 8.00 Lyrics: n/a Performance: 9.00 Arrangement: n/a Recording Quality: 8.50 Long Term Appeal: 7.50 OVERALL: 8.00 roAE:This is a one-man musical experience. Everything from raw puck rock songs to smooth jazz songs to Detroit techno songs encompassed and blurred together in various incarnations to form a frappe of aural ecstasy (not the drug). Each song is different and progressive, that is to say all of the music you'll find here is new and innovative.SeranoponareS: (pronounced sara-nop-o-nair-aes)If Mr. Snrub had a wild ride this song would be the sound track. There are as many twists and turns in this song as a Jean-Luc Godard film. Pay close attention to the time signature variation and the really stupid whistling (quite possibly the most retarded thing I have done recently). Quyarn:Quyarn is a masterfully fashioned work of art. The introduction, which is also integrated towards the song's end, is a beautiful acoustic melody fashioned after my own heart. The bass is like a river, always flowing, and never stopping to wait. The two complementary rhythms of the guitars add depth, and an always-interesting background for the other instruments to play off of, creating a wonderful harmony throughout. Despite the myriad of rhythms, time signatures, and tempos, it is one of the most unified songs roAE has ever written...it is true beauty. Rob Dreyer (the Logic)This song is very intelligently and nicely put together. It presents an eclectically, interesting, and emotionally moving instrumentation that is impeccably structured. The sounds all blend together very well, producing a full-sounding explosion of musical power. It is very smooth and pleasurably thrilling to listen to. - Yob DiordnaQuyarn is a song that is so finely crafted that it can easily serve as background music whilst one must concentrate, but at the same time is so dynamic that the listener can be totally engrossed in the song, and must actively listen to detect the intriguing subtleties. –Jon ComptonHarbangerThis song is one of the most original compositions to come out of the FU. The complexity and planning in this tune truly deserve a listen. - Mr. Snrub "i don't think i can use words that do this song justice, it's so painfully beautiful that i'm going to listen to it over and over until i go to sleep tonight." - Andy from Gin-SaunaGlass and Ghosts:Glass and Ghosts is a song about death. I have composed it with a GE Chord Organ, which I recently purchased from a Good Will near my home. In the song you can hear the clacking of the chord buttons and the rough timbre of the organ itself as well as how it is slow to react. These are all characteristics of the instrument, and rather than edit out these imperfections I chose to leave them in to preserve the realness of the composition. The title refers to the only things left after an atomic explosion, glass and ghosts. |
