Artist description
For the Red Lead quartet; MUSIC is what makes us tick, and what inspires us through our tedious terminal teenage years in school. Together enduring months of frustration and hard work in the school's 'low grade' recording studio, these 4 schoolfriends are realistic about the future, nevertheless deluded by the bigger scene. Rocking at the age of 17/18, from the suburbian 'comfort' on the periphery of London, Red Lead present, at a stage of life where innocence atrophies, the side of Life infected with depression, decaying with self pity, and burning with suppressed fear and anger. But for 4 honest and hard working guys, good hard rock music is our reason to be: the source of an unbeatable adrenaline rush that is the elixir of the cavity within our souls...Listen and Prosper, so ye may open your EyEs, n recognise. |

Artist History
March 1999. At the tender age of 16, schoolfriends A (formerly of 'El Matador' (non)fame), and Dom, started jammin in the school recording studio. Little did they know, in their naive childhood shells, what would become....but they knew their destinies lied in their hands... sticks, and strings. September 1999. The year after their GCSE examinations A finally meets Baz (formerly of 'Maximum Fob' nonfame), after 5 years of unfamiliarity through isolation in separate forms. They realise their musical tastes are almost identical. Since Baz is an amazing guitarist, Dom and A think they've found one of the missing links to their quartet (4 being the magic number). One momentous day, A asks Baz The Question...: 'baz, u done the physics?' to which baz (unpredictably, yeah right) says 'physics? work? what physics work?' (and then, as a side remark, he asks Baz if he wants to be a rock superstar (with a big house, 5 cars and..), and play in a band with him and Dom). And guess what he said. 'No................i haven't done the physics'. (oh by the way, he said yes he wanted to join the band) YEAH!!!! Sweet. Late 1999 - May 2000. So, A (guitar), Dom (drums) and Baz (guitar) jam together in the ill-equipped school recording studio, but they don't get far, trying to balance 11 A-levels between them. A tries to sing, but without much seriousness. One frosty December evening, they record 'The Room'. Overjoyed at their composition (which A dreamed up..), they find that their joy is short lived. The Room turns out to be empty; a vacuous space of uninspiring and repetitive riffs. Baz thinks up the name 'Lead', so that people get confused with 'leeed' and 'led'. A feels the name lacks passion, (and through the influence of chemistry), they settle on Red Lead, a mixture of a stable and unstable species of lead oxide; intoxicating, fiery, bright, enlightening, a Heavy Metal, contains a reactive species, and causes brain damage...the system can never eliminate it's infiltrating presence...ok that's enough.Later in 2000. Red Lead feel they need a singer, and bassist. Preferably 2 in 1, just like Pantene Pro-V...A picks up the mic with seriousness, and composes an eerie riff one night. Red Lead become serious...In successive sessions in the studio, they build up the infrastructure (which are still changing to this date) to their debut songs, Everytime (about recurring depression..for reasons we..we..just don't know why), and The Battle of the Beards (about hatred borne out of ignorance of the important things about faith). Along comes Aidge, (formerly of 'Obsidian' and currently lead singer and bassist of 'Comodo Moose Trap'.) A finds that he can sing to an acceptable level. SO he becomes lead singer while the perfect acquisition, Aidge, becomes bassist and backing vocalist of Red Lead. One historic day, A found out that the world was dead. The next, Complete was THE QUARTET OF RED LEAD.2000-mid 2001. With sessions every Tuesday, Red Lead endure months frustration in the studio, with recordings of Everytime, The Battle of the Beards and Badtime blues (he he, hmmm), still nowhere near the sound they desire, they start on writing songs for the meantime, and recording in PROPER studios after the A-level examinations dawning upon them.A's singing improves dramatically (well compared to before...), and he starts composing riffs, and eventually songs, faster than a comparatively fast object. A's songs come alive, with Dom's funk punk attichoode, Baz's skills and frills, and Aidge's wile style. Within the period outlined above, the following songs (in chronological order) become Red Lead classics...Crucifixed (religion, christianity, NWO), Never Remember (being held down, spoonfed, moulded), Over Again (depression, suppressed fear, anger), No wings to fly (anger at discrimination), Mope (depression), Forget About All (instigators, human race, the decaying earth), Eyerelin (wrongly feeling inferior, feeling detached from something special), Trying (depression, wanting to die, trying hard to find solace in a world full of tihs), Torsion (suffocation through depression), Care less (trying to forget about people that make you feel inferior, superficiality, burning the script of conformity), Being Nothing (anger at comparing yourself to others, but u just can't help it, being nothing), Codeine (pain through the trivial things in life, and wanting but failing to exorcise them).Soon to come: Sigh, Drip, Light06823, Summer, So we die so we fly. April 1 2001 10am. Red Lead signed by Maverick Records on a $2 million contract!...u fool. April 1 2001 11am. Red Lead have split up....u fool.May 1 2001. A discovers he can scream a bit. He writes 'the day i learnt to scream'. Recognise. |
