Mark Ridlen (Introspective Journeys): "Arabian OdysseyThis is a very Arabian sounding song, but you could have figured that out by the name. I really like the way this song builds, I also like the drum beat, as it is not really trance, but more of a techno, or even rock, drumbeat. This would make for a good chase scene in a movie. Great song!Data Connecter 226This is not the average Philtr song. He once toted himself as making “happy electronic music” this song features a hard hitting industrial drumbeat, low phase-shifted bass, and what sounds like a synth violin. This song sounds very much the same throughout the whole song, and it changes very subtly, but it does have plenty of variation (adding parts in, taking parts out). I especially like the way the different parts interact. All of the sounds are very analog sounding, although I’m sure they are simply soundfonts of analog instruments. I really like the monophonic glided instrument he used. This is a song that most anyone should enjoy listening to. Thumbs up!Twinkle TranceThis is a very innovative piece, based upon “Twinkle, Twinkle, little star”. While some may scoff at it’s simplicity, I commend it for it’s imaginative, monophonic, variations to a theme. This sounds really cool, and would be an awesome song to cover in concert. It features a noise-based rock drumbeat, syncopated bassline, and a couple of glided parts.Viruses Cruizin the HoodThis is a remix of two of his earlier songs, put to a funky down tempo track. It features a thumpin’ bassline, the same “little bleepy things” that were in the two songs he remixed, and it also has what sounds like a synthesized electric guitar part. This song gets your groove goin’. If your not moving your head within the first minute, there’s something wrong with you. This is really an inventive remix of two good songs, and defiantly one of the better songs I’ve heard this year. Thumbs up!2-14-01This is a decent song that follows in the footsteps of the MP3.com great, Isotropy. And while this song isn’t up to the same level as Isotropy, it is certainly entertaining to listen to. The drumbeat is what will stand out on this song. It sounds like what our old dryer used to sound like (you’ll know what I mean). This song is not really anything special, and I’m not sure I like the guitar part in it. If you like the Philtr style this is worth a listen.Virus March: Out to warThis is one really awesome song. It sounds very retro by nature. It has some warm analog sounds, and an innovative drumbeat. This is a Philtr classic. It gets better as you listen further into the song. I like the way the different parts interact, especially the “little bleepy things”. All in all, this is a very enjoyable song to listen to. Thumbs up!Philtr.net 2.0The first thing you notice about this song is the phase shifted lead part. Then in comes the fast trance drumbeat. Then comes the part I don’t like so much and that’s the bassline. Perhaps it is too prominent. But it’s only a problem for a couple of seconds. Then in comes the glided synth, and it gets better from then on. The song just turns into an electricity storm and blows you away. While this may be too fast to dance to, it is still awesome to listen to. Thumbs up!Virus March: Battle of Good and EvilThis is a song that sounds like the original, but faster. I really like the way the phase shifting is done. It has a very machine-like sound to it. This sounds like a “happy industrial” if there is such a thing. This is really an innovative song that mustn’t be overlooked. It has so many parts that go together fluidly, and just seem to work. This is one of his best! Thumbs up!Virus March: Restored RealityThis is a slower paced song that could be called “industrial” but it sounds too retro. I really like this song, and it seems to fit pretty much the description of “Virus March: Out to War”. Thumbs up!Happy InfinityWhat can you say for a first song? This song gets very repetitive, and it really is useless for dancing to, due to the awkward beat. It does manage to keep things interesting, however, and it manages to add parts. The song itself is very well mixed, and I really can’t complain about any of the parts. Will he do a remix? The world is waiting.Hip hop hapThe song is already over by the time you read this. This is a neat little song I wish he had done more work on. For 20 seconds, it’s worth a listen. This has to be the shortest song on MP3.com. I’m hoping for a remix."
