Artist description
The Nathan Clevenger Trio is an assemblage of young Oakland players using guitarist Clevenger's quirky compositions as catalysts for a dynamic and original exploration of the jazz trio (in this case guitar-bass-drums) format. The group specializes in a dynamic mixture of tight-but-unusual compositional structures and explorative free improvisation. Clevenger's guitar ranges from a sharp and aggressive bite to lush, Frisell-esque tones. He is backed by his long-time collaborator, bassist Jory Cunningham, and recent addition James Macko on drums. |

Artist History
The Nathan Clevenger Trio has been together in its current since early 2000. Though only 25, Nathan Clevenger has been performing in the San Francisco Bay Area for a decade, often with Jory Cunningham on bass. He has studied guitar and composition with luminaries such as Morris Acevedo and John Schott. Bassist Jory Cunningham has anchored a multitude of stylistically diverse bands throughout the Bay Area and Oregon, and has played with Nathan since 1994. When not playing jazz, drummer James Macko plays with the popular Bay Area alt-country band Tonight We Ride. |
