    Artist History
Exhumed in 1989, the original Charnel House, the band's first few shows gave listeners something creative, brutal, and definitely unique; an important virtue in a often uncreative scene. "Inhumanities" spawned an immediate following in the band's local queens, NY scene, and the Demo secured them several victories at "Battle of the Band's" competitions. In the following year, Charnel House delivered their second demo, the horror-epic "Prophies of Terror", to the ears of eager fans. Lead vocalist voice progressed into a deep power screaming style; entirely audible and completely intimidating. Public performances in 1992 would see the band's recognition by larger venues; playing on bills with Overkill, Pro-Pain, Gwar, Incantation, Immolation, Life of Agony, Malevolent Creation and the list goes on during the years. After a summer of decadence, Charnel House blasted out their third, and most Ambitious release to date, The Killing Breed; a seven song Album which boasted sharp production and innovative rhythms. Charnel House continued their reign of terror, playing gigs weekly, throughout '93 and '94. It was during the release of "Haunted Heaven", that the band became very active in the underground scene. Mailing the demo across the world to fanzines and reviewers, not to mention several distibutors. The feedback that Charnel House was overwheleming. Reviewers drooled over the beautiful packaging and the incredible sound production and writing back comments such as "I can't stop listening to this tape" and "This band has the sound and technical ability to incite big waves". Over 2500 copies of "Haunted Heaven" was sold by the bands personal efforts. This album gave the band the opportunity to play with acts such as, Cannibal Corpse, Pro-Pain, Malevolent Creation, Internal Bleeding, Bolt Thrower, Overkill once again and more big acts too numerous to mention. Beginning to record late 1999, the dedicated veteran quintet hammering out a new full length CD. Two songs, "Of Blood and Bone" and "Tale of Murder", can be found on the "Sample of Murder" 2 song sampler. Look for Charnel House's new CD with unrelenting aggression, one song after another that will leave you stunned. A new sound in a far too generic scene.

This American band has been around since 1989, and it really shines through on this lethal silver disc. This is brutal merican thrash metal that sts right between Ice Earth's "Burnt Offerings" and the band Meliah Rage, in other words bone-cruching heavy songs about hatred and sudden brutal death executed in a brilliant way. "Of Blood And Bone" starts the album in a spectacular fashion with its tale of a cursed house and its pounding rhythm. "Number 13" follws, a cool track about a serial killer, my favorite on the album Other tracks worth mentioning would be 'The Final Scream', 'Scars', the topical 'Terrorist' (which was written a year ago) and 'Dance Of The Dead'. There are 10 tracks on this baby, and not a single weak one among them, now the only mystery is HOW this band has managed to avoid getting a contract? Noise, Massacre, Metal Blade or Century Media Records, get your thumbs out of your asses and contact these boys, I doubt you will find anything better sometime soon! Sweet Suffering Magazine,UK A bare-bones version of classic death metal, with a lot more bounce and groove in the riffage. Charnel House has a knack for finding some really great guitar lines and rhythms. Unfortunately, the band also feels the need to break up the grooves with speed breaks. Another classic style, I admit, but it has always struck me as lazy songwriting. There is a way to merge the two ideas, even within one song. Just requires deft transitions. Charnel Horse hasn't found those. Still, I do like many of the pieces I hear here. And I also think the relatively restrained sound (it's still loud, but you can hear all of the individual instruments) works very well with the band's style. Good stuff. Just needs a little work, especially between the song segments. There's a lot here to like. If Charnel Horse can spin a tighter web around its various styles, then it will really be hard to resist. A&A Aiding & Abetting CHARNEL HOUSE "From birth to burial" (Hardcore/Trash Metal) (own production) In the summer the fifth album of the Death/Trasher Charnel House from New York developed. 10 TRACKS, which represent a partial quite violent and explosive mixture with different influences, are contained on the album. These influences reach from the normal Death/Trash attacks up to hard core passages, whereby the album does not work partly such in-usually, but however more aggressively and more roughly. In some Songs melodies play a larger role, other grooven more. For alternation ensured and despite the charm of an own production the Songs is genuinly well succeeded and finds fast in the goal. Also some appearances in the interlude of well-known of volume occupy such as Machine Head, Bolt Thrower or Overkill, as well as some profits with volume Competitions. Won self-assurance those could convert this thereby young well into their Songs. Who stands in something on the Musikrichtugn, times the New Yorker ones should test. A 10 SONG MUSICAL ONSLAUGHT THAT ATTEMPTS TO MELD THE GAPS OF EXTREME MUSIC. FROM RAMPANT SPEED THRASH TO THE CRYPTIC HOOKS AND ERRIE GUTIAR WORK.NECK BREAKING AGGRESSION FILLED WITH DIAOBOLICAL MELODY. CHARNEL HOUSE HAS ATTEMPTED TO PUSH MANY BOUNDARIES. NEVER SIMPLISTIC BUT NEVER COMPLEX. JUST MUSIC WITHOUT LIMITATIONS OR FEAR OF LABELING. TRULY RYTHYMIC, TRULY RAW, TRULY BRUTAL&TRULY CHARNEL HOUSE! 10-83 Productions, NY It's Death, a little grinding and thrasing act from the United States. Death to its core with decent performed growles and riffing of course but songs like "No Reason to Die" makes this album that it unveils its heavy/thrash abillities with so amazing guitar solos. On the other hand it's quite irregular stuff because it contains five different pieces from very different band's realases. But it shows from the very beggining to the very end of this CD that Charnel House is able to perform decent piece of extreme metal. Now, we should awaiting of their upcoming 10-song album working called "From Birth to Burial". Good stuff. Agonia Magazine, POLAND This US band has releases with this ten song CD their fifth recording. It took them about a year to lay down these tunes in a 24 track recording studio. I wasn’t really impressed when I first played this CD but the more I listen to it the more I like it. The band plays a hybrid form of speed thrash metal. They throw some death metal influences in it for good measurements and also brighten up their songs with excellent guitar work. The vocals are rough and brutal but never death metal grunting. Throughout the album you can also here some hard core influences. I don’t think that the band will ever score a major deal with this album and I think that this is also not what these guys are after. Charnel House brings simply an album with underground music for underground fans. “From Birth To Burial” is filled with tunes that harbor a wide variety of influences and will be enjoyed by people who are into heavy music without any fancy trappings. (7) UnderTow Magazine Bruno Here’s translation of the article A warm-up EP before the upcoming long player, due this summer according to the band info. The band has apparently been around since 1989 and has played twice with the mighty Overkill. I can tell that they’ve been around for some time since they play traditional but well.-executed Bay Area Thrash. During the years they’ve mixed in a few death grunts with the vocal range as well as some trendy double bass drums. The result is not bad at all. The first two songs date back to an earlier CD recorded 1999. These songs have less death interspersed and are more old-fashioned. The first song, "Of Blood and Bones" is my favorite pick. The latter materials are more modern and contain more death and somewhat faster drumming. The horror theme is a welcome ingredient and especially "Of Blood and Bones" is reminiscent of King Diamond. However, John King has an interesting voice and John Paul Gonzales has qualities behind the drums. Fans of old school death/thrash doesn’t have to be ashamed to contact... That’s it. A good little sampler. I sell off most of the stuff I don’t like but your album is still piled up at home. When’s the next album due? Cheers Miggo www.swedenrockmagazine.com CHARNEL HOUSE - SAMPLE OF MURDER (Independent, 2000): Track List: 1- Of Blood and Bone, 2-Tale of Murder, 3- No reason To Die, 4- Dance of the Dead, 5- Comatose In A Coffin. Is this death metal? No, but it has elements of the style. Is this thrash metal? No, it is more than that. In fact on this release Charnel House combines the power of death metal with thrash rhythms and riffs that are full of grooves and rhythms (for example on "Tale of Murder" there are riffs and vocals that wouldn’t be out of place in a Grip Inc. Release). Purist Death metal fans don’t worry!! Here there are some fast parts with killer fast drumming on "Dance of the Dead"!! Thrash metal fans rejoice while checking the same track in its old school thrash metal runs and guitar solos.. This guys should continue making music on this vein and emphasizing the more groovy parts. The overall sound of the recording is good but I think the guitars can be mixed better and that will give more power to the music. These guys are releasing their new CD "From Birth to Burial" too!! Favorite tracks: "Tale of Murder", "Comatose in a Coffin". Contact: www.mp3.com/ACharnelHouse Music Extreme- Sept. 2001
