Press Reviews
Their CD Pearls to Pigs is a collection of nine songs including music from the band's early years when they struggled to find places to play and to build a name for themselves. The first song on the album ' Cut the Nonsense ' is about bands struggling to make a living. At the time when they started out nobody believed that people who play as a band could do it as a job. "Neither Justin nor I have daytime Jobs, our occupation is being musicians and trying to make a living" says Craig. The CD gives a solid impression of professionalism which is also reflected in Turmoil's music. The band has developed a definite support base of hometown fans and makes special mention of this on the CD cover. Turmoil won the regional finals of the 5FM Best Un-signed Bands competition (BUBS)and performed at the BUBS concert with the other finalists in Johannesburg. Footage of the BUBS concert & an interveiw were shown on the National TV Program TOP BILLING. Also there have been Radio interveiws with Barney Simon and Sasha Martineago. The band released its debut CD 'Pearls to Pigs' (based on the saying that Pigs have very little value judgement when it comes to Pearls, they love their Swill, Swill is good....:) the "pigs" part was a reflection on the South African music industry which had not fully supported local talent, however Recent legislation states that local music had to comprise of 20 to 30% of radio stations playlists. All aspects of the Pearls to Pigs production were handled by the band members themselves, they do not have a producer. Turmoil's song Fire was on 5FM daytime playlist and reached number four on Barney Simon's Modern Rock Chart. You can check out radio 5FM live on the web at www.5fm.co.za |
