Artist History
Formed in Toronto, Canada in 1993 by Stone Ranger and Click Masta Sync, childhood friends from Dominica, West Indies. They rounded out their posse with the Cherokee Lindo on drums and the Marhshall JP on bass. Reggae Cowboys' name came from their fascination with the role of African-Americans in settling the West. While history and Hollywood have paid little attention - more than 1 in 7 cowboys was black. |

(Billboard)"Reggae Cowboys have taken reggae to a new dimension - reggae tinged with blues, country, R&B, jazz." (X-News, Jamaica)"Rock Steady Rodeo" is full of commercial yet authentic reggae a la Steel Pulse. Then there's the stirring Mark Knopfler-Eric Clapton-Carlos Santan-style blue-country guitar playing." (Orange County Register)"Seamlessly combining Ennio Morricones'spaghetti-Western soundtrack music with Marley and the Wailers one-drop rhythms these roots rock wranglers boast gun smokin' lyrical appeal with home-on-the-range humor, branding reggae with galloping western grit." (Rhythm Magazine)"Possibly not before (or since) Bob Marley's 'I Shot the Sheriff' has reggae so openly flirted with country & western themes". (The Word, Toronto) |
