Artist History
RAS NAS is a band as well as the artist name of Nasibu Mwanukuzi, a Tanzanian poet-musician, writer and producer living in Oslo, Norway. Ras Nas had a debut concert in July 1991. This happened at a party organised by the Rastafari Cultural Foundation, to mark the 99th anniversary of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, in Oslo. Since then has Ras Nas developed into one of the top afro-reggae acts in Scandinavia. Ras Nas has performed in many places. When Nelson Mandela visited Oslo in May 1992, after his release from jail, Ras Nas was there among the singers and players of instruments. Ras Nas has also warmed up a number of heavyweight reggae artists like Linton Kwesi Johnson, Eek a Mouse, I Jah Man Levi and Tippa Irie, to name but a few.Among other merits is sharing the stage with Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Van Morrison and Lisa Loeb at the Norwegian Wood Festival in Oslo. |
