    Press Reviews
‘WE LOVE THE RAIN’ “This London duo have built a reputation as the producers to keep your eye on with their hypnotic, soul dance grooves. This infectious slab of soul features the alluring vocals of the previously unknown Jehlaz, sighing over Latino funk beats and a tough bassline that makes you head straight for that floor”. (Bob Jones) * * * * * MUZIK,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'WE LOVE THE RAIN’ “A somewhat misleading title for this super summer joint. The vocal mix is an awesome breezy scat led workout with a bumpin’ bass and souring melodies. ‘Faq’s Dub’ breaks up the beats and busts out some serious sax. Flip for the killer ‘Tokyo Dub’ , a deep ride through analogue bass , blissed out keys and an epic arrangement. Pure class”. (Chris Duckenfield) * * * * 7 mag‘,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'WE LOVE THE RAIN’ “The onslaught of jazz based house continues, the percussion is very reserved, the drums being programmed with slightly more thought than your average 4/4 house number on the ‘Vocal Mix’ . The vocal consists of nothing more than scatting from the female vocal, she dances her way through the entire trip which has a nice summer vibe ‘bout it. ‘FAQ’s Sax Dub’ is the star killer cut, where the keys stamp their authority from the off, it’s not too long before the sax challenges the funky keys. The electric pianist throws down a blinding solo, rounding off the magnificent jazz jam. The ‘Tokyo Dub’ is the most hype mix, less jazz infusion here, more of a groove with only a handful of ideas”. (Yogi Houghton) * * * * * DJ mag,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - ‘WE LOVE THE RAIN’ “After a couple of useful things on Chilli Funk this South London come correct with their best effort so far and a new self-propelled label straight outta Loughborough Junction. ‘We Love The Rain’ is cool, soulful and jazzy boasting scatted vocals by a French Cambodian songstress (Brixton’s not what it used to be) and a polished production that keeps the sounds fresh and the beats smooth. Lovely percussion, sweet keys, and a refreshingly musical bassline complete the picture for the main vocal mix, but the deliciously funky sax-licked B2 rub, and a deep-as-you-like dub on the flip, add even more to this rather fine package, Different without being inaccessible and original without being obscure, this could be seen as another little glimpse of the UK real-house fightback, or simply as another good record that you really ought to be playing.” (Alan Russell)ECHOES,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - ‘WE LOVE THE RAIN’ “Lacarno & Burns kick off the Music Is Everything label with their wicked ad-lib vocal groove-athon, ‘We Love The Rain’ . French Cambodian songstress, Jehlaz’s voice is layered over rippling beats and live vibes to create a Body & Soul style anthem on the vocal mix whilst deeper tastes can delve into the jazzy Faq’s sax dub or the Tokyo dub. Great new UK label to watch for if this is a taste of things to come.....” (Nicky Trax)BLUES & SOUL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'BEAUTIFUL THINGS' ‘The second release for Lacarno & Burns on new label, Music Is Everything and it’s a beautiful slice of deep, flavoursome house that soothes body & soul. The flip, ‘Burnt Things,’ a futuristic take on old ‘70s disco king, Cerrone, that wills you to the dancefloor.” (Claire Wyburn) * * * * MINISTRY,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'BEAUTIFUL THINGS' ‘The London duo maintain their position among the top producers on the planet with another insight into their world of music with feeling. This raises heads above today’s muzak. If only the teachers would stop selling us crap then meaningful tunes like this could reach the masses.” (Bob Jones) * * * * * MUZIK ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'BEAUTIFUL THINGS' “Deep house? Lacarno & Burns get positively subterranean on this release. ‘Beautiful Things’ features old school keys, emotive strings, and vocal and sax snippets that float like gossamer. The bassline adds to the true school house flava. Hypnotic, spacious and lush, it’s one for the heads. Tim Burns’ Burnt Thing mix turns the original inside out into an eight minute epic, with warm disco-fied live bass bubbling and sweet strings soaring. But ride this one through, because half way in it gets down like a 21st century ‘Cerrone’ for a supernatural space disco classic. Quality.” (Wiseblood)10 WAX,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'OFF & ON' “Another quality real house label teams up with up and coming London boys Lacarno & Burns. The ‘Berimbau Beats’ is as good a piece of tribal house as I’ve heard for years, while the other mixes are both musically excellent and guaranteed to burn floors”. (Terry Farley) * * * * MUZIK,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'OFF & ON' “A really dreamy, summery, jazzy four-tracker which at times has a quite melancholic atmosphere. Things range from MAW to Deep Dish on one mix, all Latin and dubby. If the sound system is good enough this stuff will sound amazing in a clubs main room at 4am, never mind reserving it for home listening. Elsewhere you get a mix that has a real Fluke-ish-ness about its rubbery b-line sound, resulting in a sexy, chugging, laid-back, downtempo, funkin’ house cut. Nice Latin horns too. Bob Jones and Lofty’s label is brilliant, their musical knowledge shines through every time, everything they do displaying such experience and soulfulness.” (Craig Richards) * * * * * DJ mag,,,,,,,,,,, - 'DEPARTURE/NOVA' “Nuphonic return to the house with this dope double-header from Lacarno & Burns. ‘Departure’ cuts up some jazzy dancefloor loops while ‘Nova’ heads down the tempo for a cool little shuffle on Funk Avenue”. (Kevin McKay) * * * * MUZIK ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'DEPARTURE/NOVA' “Pete Lacarno and Tim Burns make their joint debut on Londons cool disco funk imprint. A symphony of old school disco strings and groovetastic head-nodding stabs are punctuated with hip house basslines, beats and techno phasing. Damn slick”. (Joanne Wain) * * * * MIXMAG,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'DEPARTURE/NOVA' “This is this new production team’s first vinyl excursion. Jetplanes roaring overhead announce jazzy bass and sweet rhodes keys, before the driving groove kicks in. There’s swirling funky guitar licks, a trumpet hook that logs in your brain and enuff FX just to fuck with your head a little. Expect dancefloor shenanigans ‘cos this swings Daddy-o. Flip for Nova’s sweet downtempo jazzual summer groove. These boys sneaked in the back door, but it looks like they’ll be leaving by the front. Nice”. (Wiseblood)10* / Single of the Month WAX,,,,,,,,,,,,, - 'RIVERS/LATE JAM' “Lacarno & Burns show they can turn their busy hands to just about anything on this release from the forthcoming Ascension Dimension album, Lacarno’s ‘Rivers’ is a haunting drum ‘n’ bass opus, all dreamy twinkling keys, urgent beats and insistent bass. There is real emotive , otherworldly beauty in this machine soul at its best. ‘Late Jam’ on the flip is equally dreamy, a wistful slice of downtempo soul, a stoned funk bassline, and a spaced synth solo floating like smoke over laid back Rhodes and relaxed beats. Burns’s soloing is awesome. Easy like Sunday morning.” (Wiseblood)10 WAX mag,,,,,,,,,,,,,
