Artist description
" Collins Shaw Project " ::::
DALE COLLINS is originally a prairie boy from central Alberta,Canada who moved to Victoria, B.C. as a younger man to escape the cold and play guitar. Since then he's logged hours and weeks and years as a guitarist, producer, composer, arranger, performer, recording engineer, band leader, promoter, live sound technician, graphic artist, handyman, poet, landscaper, NASCAR nut, astronaut, and molecular biologist.
:::: BERNIE SHAW is originally a Victoria, B.C. boy who moved to England as a younger man to escape the warmth and sing, and has spent the last decade fronting legendary Uriah Heep.
:::::://// ////:::::: In 1996, during a break in the Heep's always busy schedule, Bernie returned home for a while and set about putting together a band to play some shows and have some fun. .... Collins answered a casting call for a guitarist and ended up filling out the lineup .... But for now, "In Transit" ... as they would be called, did only a few select shows on the coast before Bernie returned to England and the Heep's touring schedule. .... The "In Transit" shows convinced Collins and Shaw there was something worth pursuing.
:::::://// ////:::::: "Picking Locks", the debut release by the "Collins~Shaw Project" is a tribute to perseverance .... Despite the vastness of the 'Deep Six', they managed to keep in touch, nurture a working relationship, develop material, and finally, in 1998, gathered on the Canadian side of the Atlantic to record tracks for the EP.
...... The CD features "Hey Jimi",... a tune which shows that while sometimes songwriting can be hard work, at other times it will simply pours out, in this case in the form of a tribute to the late Jimi Hendrix. The songs 'wonders' what Jimi would think of how strongly his influence is still felt today in Rock.
:::::://// ////:::::: While that big stinking ocean makes the going arduous, the work continues. .... During a subsequent visit by Bernie to his native Canadian soil the pair wrote and recorded more material including the single Sad Song, as well as several as yet un-mixed songs.
....In fact, Collins has recently relocated back to his home town of St. Albert, Alberta to continue work on a follow-up with the help of school hood chum and fellow 'road warrior', bassist Neil van Dijk. .... Collins and van Dijk grew up learning their skills together and playing their first gigs together. .... Even after an absence of seventeen years, the two began writing almost immediately.
:::::://// ////:::::: As spring 2003 approaches the 'frozen tundra' of Alberta, work is now under way on mixing, and new material for what has now become a trio on a musical quest.
:::::::::::: As with all things, the rest is yet to come............ |
