Artist History
Four years after their demise, Detroit remains the foremost purveyors of Fleshrock, a musical style as elusive as it is exhilarating. In their short career, Detroit produced four full-length albums of genre-busting music that garnered them a far-reaching fan base, many critical raves and a position as one of the most important bands on the Minneapolis scene over the past five years. Almost impossible to quantify, Detroit's Fleshrock was a wry combination of tough rock riffs, artificial synth textures and forward thinking songcraft. Although their reputation as an incredibly creative live act was what gained them notoriety, their recordings exhibit the same energy, whimsy and edge of their performances. Formed in 1996, disbanded in 1999, Detroit was able to capture that rare equilibrium wherein a band can appear to be both genius and impossibly stupid simultaneously. |
