Artist History
During 1979 and 1980 The Valentines won a reputation as one of the most exciting bands on London's post-punk circuit. Almost signed by CBS and Virgin, they subsequently evolved into Red Banner (www.mp3.com/redbanner). Singer Tony Burrough departed and Steve Connelly took over lead vocal duties. One of his first excursions as a lead singer was on Door to Door, featured here, and also (briefly) on The Strangest Thing of All. Both these songs were recorded after Tony's departure and before the band found its new identity as Red Banner. They went through a number of name changes during this transitional period, and at the time of recording these two last songs were known briefly as The Cubes. Tracks 1-12 were recorded at Eden Studios, Chiswick, during the winter of 1979/80 when the band had a recording deal with Beaumont Productions, owners of Eden. |
