    Press Reviews
{1. A Review of Reflections Live on a Saturday Night by Penni Pappas, printed in RipitUp, Feb 8th, 2001}: Recorded live, this is one ambitious production that funk-friendly audiences can’t help but absorb and groove away. The ever reliable bass is the backbone of this act, carrying the various instruments under its strong influence through each song. The band then provides us with an array of musical sounds ranging from percussion, keys, trumpet, sax to Tyson on the decks scratching the old vinyl. The lyrics are thought-provoking, even inspiring at times, but always promoting a feel-good vibe. From the first song Greg’s Jersey they had my attention, with the first 10 seconds sounding a lot like Jamiroquai, especially the vocals. But as they continued on, to the mellow Night Rider then the fast’n’funky instrumental Transcend, it became more obvious how much of their own sound they have developed. This is one of those happy catchy funk acts that you can’t help but become addicted to the groove; and a more serious and studious take on funk than the ‘purely for fun’ funk of the Dagman Allstars. ------------------------------------- {2. A Review by Alice Vivian}: "19th January 2001 Life's little disasters set to trip and sap one's strength are trivialized when I chance upon a vital young band, Superfit.. At a loose end triggered by a last minute cancellation, I navigate the streets of Adelaide looking for something to assuage my cynicism. At midnight the sentient sound of a live Jazz band permeating the warm January ambiance hits the spot. Reminiscent of Chet Baker, an elegantly muted trumpet trickles its tenuous tune through the energised Friday night air. A septet playing the tightest original jazz funk that I have heard from a young band in at least a decade is playing at the Rhino room. Funky electric bass player Tim Moore plucked every ounce of feeling and soul from the aether, well supported by a tight percussion section Matt & Tyson Baird, while Josh Spier's Rhodes keyboard skill and singing are well received. The smoothest trumpeter, Chris Weber harmonized with alto sax player Nick Brzezniak, while Jesse Wells rhymed a rap with precision. This original mix of fused jazz and funk tickled by clever rhyme is cheered by the enthusiastic audience. A post modern band with a sound link to evergreens like. Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Bill Chase, to established funk/house like. Jamiroquai, St. Germaine, Bob Sinclair and a singer not unlike an early Vince Jones. But most importantly, a music that is suffused with an élan vital tinged by strong cultural utterances. Food for thought laced with cute quotes from Deodato (Sept13) would warm the soul of the most resolute jazz devotee. Thankyou Superfit for your restorative and regenerative vibes."
