Artist History
These days, people enjoy the safe, over-polished sound known as mainstream and the bands that fit into this pop scene classification. Fortunately, even as you are reading this, there are real musicians aspiring to redirect the flow of where our mainstream mindsets are taking us. One of these bands is known simply as Reverend Agony.
Instead of becoming just another angst-ridden teen statistic ending in a clichéd suicide, Mr. Agony decided to turn to music as an outlet. After 3 months of collaborating with various local musicians at the time, he releases a demo EP entitled "Lies". The band formed and got exposure. In September of 2000, Reverend Agony started writing and recording their first LP, Tales of a Fallen Beauty Queen. They received airplay for the singles "Devirginzer" and "Soiled Dress". The album was released on Feb. 10th 2001. Their live tour took them across the Midwest and got them great exposure. The tour ended in late October and so did the bands partnership with its original guitarist, Echo.
The band then headed back to the studio and their bassist Binky, became the guitarist. A month later, Reverend Agony won the "Best of Rockford" award and played the On the Waterfront festival. Right now, the band is heavily focused and recording their new album Staring into the Abyss, which is scheduled for release in early 2003. The first single, "The Burden of Knowledge†has been released to radio and the video is soon to follow.
Reverend Agony comes from the depth of true mental anguish and brings it to the musical table while drawing from musical influences such as Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie, and Stabbing Westward.
So make no doubt about it, 2003 will not only be the year to keep an eye on this rising force of talent, but also the year to admire the slow demise of what we‘ve come to know as mainstream.
