Artist description
Thanks to an Irish Grandmother, a few formative years spent in Ireland, and the great example set by musicians we heard, the music is in our blood. We see Ourselves as a throwback to the time when music was deeply personal and every community made its own.We like to play a wide range of songs to suit the audience... and keep "Ourselves" entertained as well! We like to show the linkage between music from the old world and the new both in subject matter and in melodies. |

Artist History
When fate threw us three music-loving siblings back together in our ancestral village of Port Sanilac in 1992, we knew it was too great a chance to pass up. Whatever youthful disagreements we may have had, we all agreed on what we liked to sing and play....the same mostly Irish music and music of Irish descent that we had enjoyed for years whenever we gathered. |

Group Members
Anne is our all-purpose percussionist on bodhrans, spoons, rattlers, shakers, and things that go bump in the night. Anne has a noise for every occaision. She and her Irish spouse manage to get back most years for a visit with his family.Tom's first encouragement to sing came at 12 from an neighborhood pal in Cork. In addition to the Irish material, he likes to belt out a depression era bum song, jazz standard, country tune--it has been said he remembers the tune and at least half a chorus of every song he ever heard. Tom sings lead vocals and plays guitar, harmonica, dulcimer.Walt took a degree in archeology at University College Cork and started playing tin whistle there. He's since taught himself to play fiddle, flute, mandolin, concertina, and banjo as well. Newest member of Ourselves, Dan Allen, is also a multi-instrumentalist and brings an excellent head for harmony and arranging to the group's sound. |
