PH / Yahtzeen... write some extremely catchy heavy indie rock that actually outrocks some of the best garage bands out there. Kevin / Burning Jelly... I've been waiting for the Paris@2am full release for about a year now. The fine mix of personal lyrics, powerful music andemotion-drenched vocals and screams make for 45 minutes of pure, fast-paced aural bliss. Punk Planet Reviewer Spotlight: Ryan Poortenga...Current Faves of mine include Paris@2am's incredible "It Wasn't An Accident But It Should've Been" CD which should bereviewed in these pages soon and is the best new album released this year by far. Punk Planet...From the heartfelt wail that opens up the record, this is a solidly energetic, emotional and well constructed album. The instrumentation is complex and aggressive ("extr-emo", as their record company's website dubs them), and there are lots of nicevocal flourishes that sometimes recall some of the more gleeful aural gymnastics of Ian Mackaye. The band is an impressivethree-piece from Green Bay. Frankly, I think Green Bay@2am is just peachy as a band name, so I'm not sure why they haveto get pretentious and bring Paris into the equation. In the second half of the record, though, they wise up and start talking about America-namely, Roanoke and Florida. Their Wisconsin brethren in the Promise Ring would be proud. Heartattack...Within the emo-hardcore category, this band is all over the place musically. At times I hear hints of a little Fuel in there, sometimes even a teeny weensy bit of Sawhorse, but don't let me lead you to believe this band sounds anything like theaforementioned bands. It doesn't. They have a tight sound and sometimes they go into a melodic DC-like straight forward jamand then they just go ballistic and go into this off beat weird repetitive thing which kind of annoys me. They're just all over theplace, this probably would've been a good demo. Blankgeneration.com...Man am I gonna' catch shit for this. OK, I hate emo as much as the next guy does, more probably. But I've enjoyed this Wisconsin band for quite a while -- this disc doesn't capture their (believe it) live fury, but I guess it'd be impossible to program the fucker to kick and spit on you. "Languid" dreamy jangle gives way to ballsy hardcore and atonal jamming -- shit, if you haveany inclinations towards this type 'o thing, pick it up. (TK) (No Karma, P.O. Box 71203, Milwaukee, WI 53211-7303) Saulgoodman.com...Patience has paid off well for Wisconsin's Paris@2am. Two years of constant writing and touring have resulted in thislong-awaited followup to their self-released 1998 7-inch. Thirteen wonderfully loud, intense, hardcore-type rock tracks, expertly recorded by the Mogis Brothers. They've been compared to Fugazi, At the Drive-In, Hot Water Music and Frodus, but soon Paris@2am will have gouged their own name into our hearts. As The World Burns..."WOW" is the only word I can offer to describe this release. Paris is a 3 piece (now 4 piece... *CL) emotional hardcore bandfrom Oshkosh, WI (Green Bay... *CL) in the vein of "Fugazi" and "Ri
