Artist description
Zachem is one of the best kept secrets in St. Petersburg, Russia. But not for long. An increasing demand for their songs on the radio is making Zachem one of the most popular underground acts in the city.Released in the summer of 1999, the band's first solo album, Mir Lentyayam, is a culmination of almost 6 years of labor, and two years in the studio (with 15 compositions). Recorded in one of St. Petersburg's original covert recording studios left over from Soviet times (when rock was illegal) the album manages to capture the spirit of the revolution which is still alive in the hearts of the young, despite difficult times; In every song, there is the flavor of sacrifice and pain with a tinge of hope. |

Artist History
Zachem (which means "why?") was formed by Igor Salnikov and Vladimir Zhidovchits in 1994 in Repino, a suburb of about 20 miles from St. Petersburg. Zachem writes and performs classic rock songs in both Russian and English. Since early 1999, the band has grown to include a drumer, a bass player, and a lead guitarist. The band has even had a private perfomance on board the Russian sea-vessel Aurora -- famous for the immeasurable part it's played in Russias revolution of 1917.This year promises to be the busiest yet for Zachem with performances expected much more frequently. The band hopes to begin work on a second album soon -- this time with more songs in English and new live recordings. |
