    Artist description
Tekulvi has emerged from the Chicago indie rock scene, combining elements of math rock with dynamic straight ahead rock n'roll. Tekulvi's driving rhythms are created by Greg Sharp(drums) and Josh Browning(bass, vocals). Chris Almodovar(guitar, vocals)and Phil Naumann(guitars) layer schizophrenic guitar lines, while vocals vacillate from eerie hushes to blood-curdling screams. In September 2001 Tekulvi recorded with engineer Mike Lust(Sweep the Leg Johnny, Lustre King, the Vidablue). The outcome yielded the EP, In Recognition of Your Significant Accomplishments, which is scheduled for a March 19th, 2002 release on Divot Records. Tekulvi will also contribute a song to the upcoming indie star-studded Divot compilation "Ground Rule Double 2." Tekulvi's self-produced debut LP, Who Knows Where We Are, was released in July 2000. The record was described by Music Emissions as "...minimalistic guitars swelling to cacophonous measures." Jeff Marsh of Delusions of Adequacy raved "the music is powerful when it's hushed and when it's loud and crazy...the use of delicate, beautiful guitar work one second and driving rhythms and screaming the next is what makes this band so interesting...this is powerful, emotional, and intense music." Monica Kendrick of the Chicago Reader said Who Knows Where We Are is "a rich, lush, accomplished helping of Chicago-style soundscape rock." In April 2001 Who Knows Where We Are was re-released by the growing Chicago label, Loose Thread Recordings. Tekulvi supported their debut by playing shows with Shipping News, Sweep the Leg Johnny, Season to Risk, Heroine Sheiks, Haymarket Riot, Nymb, Aloha, Abilene, Pele, Poem Rocket, and the Vidablue. By emphasizing a circuit of shows in the Midwest, Tekulvi has created an underground buzz with growing crowds at each performance. On November 12, 2001 Tekulvi released a split 7" with Zelienople, their second recording on Loose Thread. This clear vinyl contains the single, "Low Center of Gravity." To coincide with the release of In Recognition..., Tekulvi will embark on full-on U.S. tours throughout the Spring and Summer. Keep on the lookout in 2002 for Tekulvi at your local bar, hall, or basement.

    Press Reviews
AMG EXPERT REVIEW: A composition of abrupt distortion and tranquil melodies are presented throughoutTekulvi's debut single. Escorted by their Tortoise-inspired complexities of structured maturity are the mumbling vocals of guitaristChris Almodovar. Through a relaxed tone on both sides of Tetrahedron, a thick chop of distortion concludes each song. What Tekulvi lack in energy they make up for in musical ingenuity. ~ Mike DaRonco
