    Artist description
Redsands evolved in the year 2000 from the rubble of straight heavy metal. Music is not meant to have boundaries or restrictions. Classifications are results of this disposable, pre-marketed society. Image is just a tightening of the screws. The true essence of music is to do what you feel and let that guide you. We are metal and we aren't metal. What is metal anyway and who really gives a fuck? We are Redsands, these are our sounds.

    Artist History
Sometime back in early 1998, in the coastal town of Narrabean, NSW, extreme guitar enthusiast, Val Muratori, stopped playing in his bedroom and started to develop his ideas for a rock band that would have substance, dynamics, crushing riffs and an overall intensity rivaling any other band in Australia. His tastes in music came from bands such as Helmet, Kyuss and Machinehead. These tastes helped him to sculpt his ideology but not dominate his own very original and captivating style.<br>Finding other members for this super band proved even more of a task than writing the music itself. Firstly, he got together some school friends from the local area and started jamming, calling themselves, Dead City Radio. Unfortunately the other musicians did not meet up to the high standards of dedication needed for such a band, as well as not possessing the appropriate skills to produce dynamic and original accompaniment to Val's exceptional guitar work. Therefore, these musicians were asked to leave and they all now play in different rock bands around Sydney, regurgitating American rubbish.Disgruntled but still determined, Val decided to approach a close friend and number one bass player, Dan Longhurst. He wasn't approached at the start for the fact that he had been playing in the band, K-Nitrate, but seeing as Val knew he was one of the best, he asked Dan to join.Dan had been playing for 6 years in such bands as Fury 161 and K-Nitrate. During this amount of time he had become frustrated with the many wannabes that do not possess the dedication, hard-working ethic, and motivation to make it to the top. Hearing the awesome sound that was Val's guitar genius, Dan decided to give the music industry one final assault with the band now to be called, Redsands.Within 2 months (early 1999), another close friend, Arnie Dammer, who was playing guitar in a band called Eye-O-Cide, left out of frustration and quickly teamed up with Val and Dan, to become guitarist in Redsands. The next 12 months saw Redsands try out and discard 4 to 5 drummers, as well as the same amount of singers who failed to produce an original style and couldn't understand the intensity in which Redsands prided themselves upon. Within this time frame, Redsands was found by friend and record store supervisor, Alicia Miller, who saw that there was something very different and far more superior than anything she had witnessed at the many live shows she went to in Sydney. Straight away she offered herself as manager, with their first show in 1999 being organised.Without the appropriate drummer and singer, Redsands did their first show which was far from appealing, which led the boys back into the rehearsal studio to fix themselves up. This meant the sacking of another drummer and singer.Meanwhile, on the other side of NSW, in Pitt-town, Daniel Degotardi was becoming disenchanted with the band in which he was playing, a hybrid band that could not even agree on a band name. Degs, (as he likes to be called), wanted to fulfill his dream of being in a band that had a much higher level of intensity and musicianship. Pouring through the classifieds section of the Drum Media, he found an advertisement for a band called Redsands. A phone-call and a few rehearsals later, the unique drumming style of Degs was embraced and sealed with a riff. Now all that was needed was a killer of a front-man.Another part of NSW, Revesby, was hiding a Creative Writing/Literature Major by the name of Simon Calabrese. Simon made his singing debut in 1997, fronting the metal/hardcore band Inequity. Inequity was developing quite a cult following but unfortunately, to Simon's disappointment, the band members failed to develop musically and professionally in the three years they had played together. Simon had performed over 200 shows within this time and had even been approached by Chatterbox Records to audition for the much coveted position of frontman for Aria-nominated band, Henry's Anger. As enticing as the offer was, Simon wanted to be part of a band that was yet to be entirely formed, rather than fill someone else's shoes. Like Degs, this led Simon to the classifieds in Drum Media, auditioning for Redsands. A few rehearsals later, in early 2000, the tight and ferocious unit called Redsands was now finally formed, definitely.
