Press Reviews
If you're venturing down the musical highway, searching for sounds that won't take you to the same old places, then Taylor Street is the right turn to take. From the pre-dawn, gentle opening of a Hendrix work to a rock-your-socks-off tribute to Ellington, Sherry rises an eagle's height above merely "covering" other artists' tunes. He reinvents them in ways that mine their essence. His version of Fields of Gold is so wondrous you'd swear that Sting had covered HIM. Indeed, smart artists everywhere will soon be lining up to cover Sherry originals. Free Spirit is break-your-heart beautiful, the sound equivalent of gorgeous cinematography, all emerald grasses and breathless skies. As for Dig, honey, if you're not up and dancing to it, then you just plain forgot to plug in the CD. There's more, much more, all of it sure to surprise and delight. For a journey well worth the taking, just direct your feet to the TAYLOR side of the STREET.Joyce McGreevy, Monterey County HeraldThe words intricate, rich, complex, spirited, fun and full of life came to mind over and over as I listened. Between each cut, I expected applause and standing ovations. The production was professional from start to finish, including the design and graphics on the CD itself. By the time I got to Fields of Gold, I cried with its beauty, and Under a Cresent Moon literally took my breath away. Bravo! Susan Musgrove, Denver, COJohn Sherry's Mississippi John, cut six on his new CD Taylor Street, is some of the best slide guitar I've ever heard.Radio DJ Eric Gee, Oakland, CA |
