    Artist History
Patty and Bob wrote their first songs together and starting recording February 1998 at Moon Productions in Arroyo Grande, CA. Several months into the project, on a trip to Hawaii, Patty became very ill. Close to death, she underwent three (3) surgeries in 48 hours to save her life from a blood clot. She then had to recover enough to fly back to California for a fourth and final surgery. This time an upper rib resection was performed to remove a rib and ligament or risk having another blood clot. After several months, Crowded Head began to take shape. Slowly but surely, the project was restarted. Piece by strategic piece, the band members were put in place. Patty and Bob started by putting the foundation in the hands of veteran drummer Cheech Iero who was flown out from New Jersey for the original recording sessions. Next, Michael Dean was brought in to handle the Bass and Lead Guitar duties as he juggled duties handling Bonnie Raitt's guitar sound. Michael's production influence began to have a major impact on sculpting the bands sound. At this point, the band used the original bass lines developed by Rory Crott to bring back a more active bass presence. Finally, Michael Dean called on his old friend Terry Lawless to fill in the missing pieces of the bands sound. Hustling between gigs with Janet Jackson and Bruce Springsteen, Terry rounded out Crowded Head with a healthy dose of keyboard, synthesizer, and horns.
