Artist History
At 5’1 and 21, this "lil grrl with a big sound", born
and raised in the Jersey suburbs is ready to take on
any wisecrack about being short, hitting the music
scene hard and not letting the big people stand in her
way.
Whether opening a sold out show for Top 20 billboard
pop star, Michelle Branch, or performing an intimate
set at a coffeehouse in Melbourne, Australia, Michelle’s soulful voice,
skillful guitar playing and up-beat quirky antics
captures the eyes and ears of her audience who get the
feeling that they’re in the presence of someone who’s
doing exactly what she’s meant to do.
Inspired by the honest lyrics of the Indigo Girls,
mixed with the smooth styles of Aimee Mann and Joni
Mitchell, Michelle’s original pop-folk songs are sung
straight from her heart, full of passion with a gentle
touch of the blues.
It all started when Michelle was searching for her
lost hamster in the basement, she came across her
mother’s 1960’s Kay guitar which only had three
strings. After months of practice and calluses on her
fingers from jamming to classic rock tunes, Michelle
was performing her original songs at battle of the
bands, coffeehouses, friends’ parties and even managed
to get a steady gig at the local Borders Books and
Music. All this at the tender age of 14!
Most recently, Michelle toured Australia, where she recorded an EP entitled, "foursongsforyou" co-produced by John Castle in Melbourne. In other news from the land down under, Michelle made her way to the Grand Finals of Hard Rock Cafe and Sony Music's "future rock" competition in Sydney.
Michelle’s music can be heard internationally on college
radio and local folk stations. Along with Ani
Difranco, Jewel and Tori Amos, Michelle’s music is
also featured on over 40 online radio stations. 2000
marks the year that listeners ranked Michelle’s songs
on the top 50-folk/rock charts of Mp3.com.
Making her screen debut, the music video for
Michelle’s song, "Dark Refrain" showcased at the 2001
Kudzu Film Festival along with videos from artists
like Tom Waits and The Donnas. "Dark Refrain" also
won first place in the 2001 William Paterson
University’s annual film festival. A video for "Oblivious to You" is now being filmed in Los Angeles.
"foursongsforyou" is available through Michelle's website as well as CD Baby.
And yes, Junior, the hamster, was found safe and sound
later on that day.
