Artist History
Straight out of East Vancouver it’s the JUNKY GODS! Formed in May of 2000, members Jamie Duquette (vocals/guitar), Greg Graham (bass) and James Kersten (drums) play their rawk cards straight up with their debut CD ‘JUNKY GODS’.
JUNKY GODS sifts through the debris of such artists as Queens of the Stoneage, Alice Cooper, Stiff Little Fingers and early Aerosmith to cook up a carthartic stew simmering in an arena rock bouillabasse. Sure to please every time!
At the beginning of 2000 , DIESEL CANDY decide to take a hiatus from recording and playing live. Members Jamie anD Greg tAKE this in stride and set about jamming acoustically at the future JUNKY GODS headquarters in East Vancouver. Songs add up, electrics come out and the tape rolls. Fast forward to June 2000 and drummer James is sympathetic to the vibrations. In a blur of activity
JUNKY GODS is formed and gigs at some of Vancouver’s finer live music establishments.
Instead of just slogging it out in the local grind, they disappear into FIASCO BROTHERS studios to commit to tape an introduction - The ‘JUNKY GODS’ CD! Six songs basically recorded live that deal out the tongue in cheek truth.
the JUNKY GODS Recently toured BC/ALBERTA in September of 2001 as well as working domestic and foreign markets. Plans are in the works for a video and more recordings. JUNKY GODS is actively seeking out labEl and licensing interest.

JUNKY GODS
Junky Gods
Independent
By Mike Usinger (c) 2001
“Until now, local stoner-rock addicts have had to
make do with imported product, but that’s
changed with the release of Junky Gods.
Formed from the ashes of Diesel Candy, the
three-piece has a solid grasp of what gets
teenage burnouts playing air guitar in
suburban rec rooms. The six songs on Junky
Gods are a primordial mixture of superfuzzed
solos, strangled vocals, lumbering bass, and
Melvins-esque drumming. Adding levity to the
proceedings is the band’s occasional use of
acoustic guitars and choruses that are folksy in
a scary kind of way.
How good is Junky Gods? Well, imagine you’re
sitting around an East Vancouver basement
suite with fully loaded bong, two canisters of
Pringles, and Jerry Springer on the TV. The CD
carousel is loaded with four out of the five
following albums: Nebula’s Let It Burn, Queens
of the Stone Age’s Rated R, J Mascis + the
Fog’s More Light, Neil Young’s Ragged Glory,
and Fu Manchu’s No One Rides for Free. The
only thing that remains to be decided is what’s
going in the final slot. Here’s a guarantee:
once you’ve fired up the Zippo, no one’s going
to complain when Junky Gods oozes out of the
speakers. Whether that’s a good thing or not
depends on how you feel about sitting around
baked in a basement while life passes you by.”

“Roof down and shades on, I crank the arena roar of Vancouver’s Junky Gods (www.junkygods.com) and let freedom fuckin’ ring. Like a lot of Canadians these days, the Junky Gods are obsessed with Grand Funk, bringing on the mid 70’s boogie metal groove with sweeping melodies, like a big ol’ buzzard with cotton candy wings. The closest thng I’ve heard to Chicago’s legendary street-flash rockers Life, Sex, and Death since their homeless lead singer Stanley wandered off into some alley of obscurity. The stoner rock kids are gonna go crazy for these cats.”
