Artist History
Born Heather Maze, Jade Maze is a singer/songwriter born in Minneapolis, raised in California and now based out of Chicago. Having been on her own since she was 15, Jade's a hard knock lady and her original music reflects the depth of her experiences ranging from pure joy to tragic darkness. Somehow her audience is left feeling as though they'd been allowed a glipmse into her heart. Jade's debut CD, "beat of your soul" was released in February 1996 from Flood Records. It has a bluesy-jazz feel that's subtle and sexy. Her second CD, "Walking Revolution", was raw, stripped down and gutsy with more of a rock approach. Her songwriting is the thread of continuity through the music no matter what the "genre" and she always surrounds herself with a great musical cast. Her latest CD "My favorite color is blue" is strictly Blues and R&B. |

Press Reviews
-Jade has one of the sexiest vocal deliveries I've heard in a long time... If you told me she was Sade's sister, I would be swayed to believe you... This kid's a natural and it's not going to take her long to prove it to everyone... Metronome Magazine, Boston-Jade Maze could almost fool you into thinking she's another boring urban radio diva with Beat Of Your Soul's slick cover art, a cappella opening track, and lyrics like "I need that penetrating thrust inside." If it's a ploy to get airplay, here's hoping it works-- this blows away anything on WGCI. The remarkably versatile singer/songwriter is a raw R&B vocalist, a sultry chanteuse, and carefree pop singer all at once-- sometimes childishly playful, always melodically inventive, and genuinely soulful. The dialogue between Maze and her classy bass/drums/guitar/tenor sax combo is wonderfully subtle and relaxed. Their performances on the jazzy "Touch You, I Can" and the breezy "You've Got It" are sublime.'Mike Sturgess, Illinois Entertainer-Jade Maze's debut rises above the din of divas with an honesty and directness that is in a word, refreshing.Tim Steil, Showcase Magazine, Chicago-...Maze sings up a storm, with a versatile voice that can wax husky or scoot on up the register and deliver a soulful wail... unfettered by trend-of-the-week consciousness.Walt Rego, The Santa Barabara Independent-...one of the hottest bands... she's got a voice that powers...Russell E. Spencer, Santa Barbara News Press, California-A tall woman... threads her way up to the front. She shakes back her thick black hair and cues the band which throttles down to a purr. Closing her eyes, leaning her head back, hands clutching the mike [sic] as if in prayer, Jade Maze begins to sing... and suddenly a wave of quiet rolls back over the bar. Conversations gutter out. Drinkers tip back their Rolling Rocks as if to sip but hold them, frozen by the performance. Maybe it's the way her smoky alto caresses the melody like a saxophone... or maybe it's the words- the way they diagnose the universal human condition...Kevin R. Convey, Boston Magazine-This woman has a voice so smooth you could skate on it.T.B. The Improper Bostonian, Boston-Her astounding experiences are transferred into her original music, spanning from pure joy to tragic darkness... her audience is left feeling as though they'd been allowed a glimpse into her heart.Boston Phoenix |
