Artist description
The goal of Drop-D Gorgeous is to create catchy songs that get to the chorus in under a minute and leave the listener with a smile and a desire to hear more. Lyrics are always wholesome enough that even mom and dad would like them (if it weren’t for the loud drums and guitars). |

Artist History
Drop-D Gorgeous began back in the early 90s when four college chums from Mississippi College formed a rock band, had two rehearsals, and then won a local battle of the bands contest (grand prize being the opening spot for Steven Curtis Chapman at his Jackson, MS concert). Believing that there is something special about a band that plays its first gig in front of 10,000 people in a coliseum, the boys decided to get serious. Known then as Higher Call, they wrote more songs, rehearsed a few more times, and began getting more gigs in the Mississippi/Tennessee/Alabama area than they could handle. Demo tapes were made, T-shirts were printed, one song made it to the radio, and Steven the guitar player, Jason the singer, John the bass player, and Joe the drummer seemed destined for great things. Unfortunately, a band called This Train had other plans for Joe the drummer and recruited him after a Higher Call New Year’s Eve show. So Joe moved to Chicago, Steven stayed in Mississippi, John roamed around San Francisco, Jason spent some time in London and Germany, and Higher Call was no more.In 1999, as fate would have it, Steven, Jason, and John all ended up back in Mississippi. Believing the second time could be a charm, Steven decided to call the boys up and see if there was any interest in writing and playing music again. There was, and after recruiting drummer extraordinaire Tim to fill Joe’s slot, Drop-D Gorgeous was born. |
