Artist description
Here is an excerpt from a recent interview:Tell us a little about yourself. I am a composer who loves what he does. I have been composing music for over 12 years. I learned to play by ear and have never had piano lessons. I have heard that you like to use “real” instruments in your recordings, but your studio is full of midi instruments... would you say you are a purist? And why does a purist compose electronic music? I can be considered a “Purist” sometimes, simply because of the fact that I prefer real instruments to sampled instruments. I lay down most of my Bass lines myself with a real bass guitar, and I do the same for Pianos, Organs, and Trombone/Brass Parts. I always try to lay down the real instrument whenever possible. In some cases it may be only 1 real instrument, but that instrument makes the entire recording sound better. I do however love to create music with all types of sound... electronic or analog. What kind of things have you composed music for? I have composed many pieces for promotional videos, advertising agencies, and television/radio. Not to mention the bands I have played in.What kind of music do you enjoy composing the most?...I love to write music for anything. I really enjoy writing rock and roll and electronic music. But most of all I love to compose music for the orchestra with film in mind When you are composing, what instrument do you find yourself on the most?I compose mostly on the Yamaha CP-70 but a good amount is also done on the O1/W. So if I peered into the pantry of Distraction Studios, what would I find?Your asking for the colonels secret blend of herbs and spices...Well it may or may not include 1 or more of the following: Yamaha CP-70 electronic grand piano (real strings & hammers), a 1963 Farfisa VIP233 organ, Korg 01/W and DW-6000, a Roland S-10 (for those quick samples) and Juno-106, a Yamaha DD-5 (for the ultimate in cheesy digital drums) and a Casio CT-360 (yes, i do really use it)! My only outboard gear might include a Kurzweil Micro Piano, and a Digitech TSR-24 multi f/x processor. All run through a Mackie 1202 mixer into LA Gold vs. 4.5 run on a IMac G3 400mhz with 256mb of RAM. |
