Artist History
Forget about the title of "Best Female Guitarist", because you can't even lump Kris Wiley into that category. Willie G. Moseley, writter for Vintage Guitar Magazine said it best in his review of Ms. Wiley in Aug.1996. "I'm not saying you should check out kris wiley because she is a female in a male dominated field, you should check her out because she is a damn good player!" Kris Wiley has recieved much praise for being a strong guitarist in what is normally a male dominated field and rightfuly so because she began playing at age 15. Kris has had the opportunity to play such high
profile gigs like the Monterey Bay Blues Festival, The Doheny Blues Festival, she was a regular opening act at B.B King's club in Universal City, Ca for well over two years and has also played as a headliner at B.B King's club in Memphis, TN. She finally released her debut CD, "Old, New, Borrowed and Blue," in january 1999 and literally two weeks later signed a deal with independent label JSP records. Her new album "Breaking The Rules" is due for release in July 1999. Kris' music is deeply rooted into the blues but she doesn't really consider herself a "blues artist." Her desire is
to just play "great songs" because she simply loves all styles of music and wants to incorporate all of her influences in to her playing, singing, and writing. Kris Wiley is truly a music star on the rise. If you live in the Southern California area you can see Kris Wiley and her band perform at the Pasadena Playboy Summer Fest on Sat May 29th at 12:30 p.m. You can also e mail her if you'd like to find out more information. |
